Re: HOW CAN ONE EAT SAUSAGE ,BACON,ECT IF THERE 17ST IN WEIG

Do have to say that I personally beleive that having gone very low carb has had prety much only possitive affects so far . I also beleive that I was lucky to go down that route which has to be the fastest way to bring down bgs with out insulin . And given what the high bgs have done and where doing and perhaps still are doing but to a far lesser extent. I think I would have been in real trouble if I hadnt. I know that some of the peoplem in the discussion have kidney damage and problems due to having had run high for so long. I know I am still realistically a newby but I'm just trying to do the best I can whith bgs while I get other stuff sorted but my bgs remain my priority.

Re: HOW CAN ONE EAT SAUSAGE ,BACON,ECT IF THERE 17ST IN WEIG

paul ,, how longhave you been a diabetic ,,, if it was only like me 2weeks you need to ask qeustions over and over again till it all sinks in , dont you think , you may have been where i am now , so just because you seem to know it all , newbies still have to learn the inns and outs of foods and make it sink in ,,, so what if the qeustions are asked again , at least newbies can read the latest posts ,

there is a lot to learn isnt there , some people think diffrent , in there diets and at the moment its worrying me so i ask again so it sinks into my head so chill a bit

Please watch this. It is long (54 minutes) but well worth it and very illuminating.

I have been watching grams of fat for 40 odd years and am finding it hard to understand the low carb / higher fat way of eating.

This video goes quite a way to explaining it....

Re: HOW CAN ONE EAT SAUSAGE ,BACON,ECT IF THERE 17ST IN WEIG

I think our problem in this thread is it's all in the words we're using.

I think we're probably all low carb.
And all making a really good effort to get to a set goal.

I'm not quite as low in carbs as others, and I actively avoid fat, and look at the calorie count, so I call it low calorie.

Looking at a low carb diet though, it's much the same regime as mine, just with a little tweak on the meat content, and maybe a bit of cooking oil to use the calories I save for a beer occasionally.
But not an unlimited meat and dripping diet.

Still a regime of set meals, no random snacks, portion sizes, no seconds, which it what it usually comes down to.

So we're all putting in a lot of effort, and it's something that works for us, and that's the important thing to go for.

The one thing we all have in common seems to be finding a regime we can stick to, and trying a few until we can find something that works.
So keep at it, choose one thing to give up, and find something "healthier" instead.
A gradual change may work, or completely cold turkey, but it has to suit you.
And any change is better than none.

I haven't watched it all, but isn't that the paleo diet?

Grass fed meat
no grain,
no peas beans etc.
no dairy

I have to say, I've pinched bits of that as well.

That's great.

Keep on doing that.
You can't change years of habit in a few days.
Giving up the rubbish food is enough to start with, then build on that to refine what you eat to concentrate on what is best for you.

May I politely suggest that if you have an issue with a forum member or MOD(erator) that you use the Private Messaging (PM) feature of the forum to resolve said issue. That is, in my opinion, the correct tool for such a job and much better, again in my opinion, than "airing dirty laundry in public!"

HTH

P.S. It would be useful for reader's of your posts, for you to check you haven't inadvertently left the <CAPS LOCK> key on before posting - there are other and better ways to highlight parts of your posts.

P.P.S. Helpful hint: always useful to 'preview' and read before posting.

Re: HOW CAN ONE EAT SAUSAGE ,BACON,ECT IF THERE 17ST IN WEIG

I have been following this topic with interest.

Been a type 2 diabetic for 15 years (with PCOS) and managed to get my weight down by using the low GI approach. However, I have to do a lot of exercise to keep my weight stable and still couldn't lose the problem areas (ie tummy).

A friend had a lot of success with the paleo diet so I decided to give it a go.

No grains, sugar and limited dairy. Plenty of good meat, vegetables, some fruit (mainly berries), fish and seafood. I try to get organic wherever possible and have subscribed to an organic veggie box each week. I tend to avoid processed meat these days but do eat bacon that I have found from the local farm shop.

I found by switching to coconut oil this helped with any issues with acid and by the 3rd week I had no stomach problems at all.

Realise this is quite a strict regime but finally the tummy fat is coming off and my bloods are now no higher than 5.0. I am on metformin and have managed to lower my dose to 1500mg from 2000mg.

That said, it is not for everyone and I completely understand that it is an expensive and in some ways time consuming regime - but I do feel better for it, with lots more energy - no need for afternoon naps. I also seem to sleep better as well.

If anyone is interested google "Mark's daily apple". Its an American site but has lots of free advice on it.

It's dead good isn't it ! It seems strict at first but the rewards are massive and I love it with a passion and I'm really enjoying my food.
Wish I'd found this lifestyle years ago.
