Good evening,
Well day 4 of being "diabetic" (T2)......not feeling quite as lost & confused, am taking it as a blessing really that I've been diagnosed quite early & given the chance to change my diet etc....went to the chemist yesterday (as advised by many on here) and got a machine to monitor levels of BG.....think I must be fairly borderline/mild as the readings aren't to bad???....but anyway, I'm feeling much better after just 4 days of following my new regime!!...so I'm happy....will put up the ones I've taken so far, would welcome any comments as not totally sure what the levels mean, although obviously they're not high at all.....
before food: 6.5 5.0 5.4 9.2 5.4 5.7
2 hours later: 6.3 7.4 10.4 7.6 7.3

Would like to know why on 2 of the tests the reading went down 2 hrs after eating, but all the others it went up???....am following a low carb diet
Thanks in advance...Jayne

Hi. What many of us find is that all the rules are there to be broken! There could be various reasons including a very quickly absorbed carb meal whereas others may be low-GI perhaps with fat as well. Anyway, those readings are pretty good so keep up the good work and you will gradually be able to tweak the food over time

Are you recording what you ate?

Good morning.....and thanks for the replies....I don't think I'm quite grasping the food, carbs, bg thing yet. Although the numbers from monitoring seem to be ok, I don't really understand the significance..lol...I .have the diabetic nurse appointment next Wednesday so hopefully she'll be able to get through my thick skull, and make me understand!!?...and yes, I am writing down all I eat & the readings in a sort if food diary. I thought it would be a good idea so I could use it for my own reference and also to show the nurse...feeling quite positive and an awful lot better, today is the first day in a long time that I haven't woke up with a head ache.....and for the past 2 evenings I've not fallen asleep while having a chat with my husband...I think he was getting a complex about being boring!!..lol...hope you all have a lovely day...Jayne

Jane, I can get a lower post eat result than before eating. This always happens for me after breakfast. I've had the odd occasion after lunch. I think it's all about if you are starving yourself before eating (this will raise it) and how active you are after eating. It's not just about eating.

hi, your doing great!

it takes a while for everything to settle down and you will start to see patterns emerging from what your eating to what you bg is, hence the importance of the food diary or myfitnesspal app (was my choice) it took a couple of months for me to stop getting really odd readings so don't worry to much if you get them, just carry on with what your doing, its brilliant if you can look upon db as a blessing :)
