5/2 Fasting - my experience

I'm a type 1 using omnipod and Libre. I've been a frustrated diabetic for 40plus years.
I've been fasting (complete) for two days a week for about three months and settled in to the routine.

My experience:
The two days of the week that I'm fasting are my best controlled days.
The basal profile for the fasting days declines over the 48hrs and settles at around 70% normal level (for the last night).
The basal profile for the eating days (5off) increases, reaching 100% after 48 hours.
My bolus ratios increase and decrease similarly and are the source of some hypo problems. The omnipod makes it tricky to affect the bolus ratios (and I usually forget), increasing the likelihood for hypos on the first two days of the eating period.

I believe that this lifestyle is beneficial, primarily because I now have at least two days a week with good control.
It has confirmed how my carbs intake affects my basal and bolus factors (allowing me to predict and manage).

I am now striving to significantly reduce my carb intake throughout the eating days of my week. Easier said than done!

I charted my basal profile by fasting for five days last year. My total basal intake reduced to around 30% normal on the fifth day. I then plotted the daily basal profiles from those five days, averaged, and used a factor to scale it up to a "normal" 100% day. (I will repeat this annually).

I'm controlling my sugars by intermittent fasting, not eating for 16 hours a day rhen having 3 meals between 10am and 6 pm. I have stopped snacking on sugary sweets and am sticking to low carbs.

My bloods are consistently between 6 and 8 now. Where before I was as high as 30, and that was when using lantus, dapagliflozin and gliclazide.

I stopped the meds now.

I would recommend low carb intermittent fasting to anyone struggling.
