I have drastically reduced my carbs, only for the past four days (everyone has to start somewhere right?), and both my last test last night and my first test this morning were 6.6!!!

I have NEVER had a sub 7 reading since being diagnosed.....and my am reading has never been below 10 (morning phenomenon?) I even went so far as to calibrate my monitor just to be sure is wasn't messing with me..lol

This puts my average for this week at 8.2.....a knock-me-down-and-kick-my-ass miracle.

So this is just really a WooHoo shout out to myself...Go me! :D :D

That's fantastic progress in such a short time Viv!
Keep it up and the double digit numbers will soon be a thing of the past.
WooHootoYouToo! :D

Well done you! Similarly, I am finding the reduced carbs are working for me too. I have returned to my 'low gi' fruit and protein lunch and readings are nice and low. Went on a training course the other day had a couple of sandwiches - you can't over eat at these things anyway  and the reading was back up high.

I too am seeing this as a good method for me to. Though really missing chips

Well done Viv, those readings are great.
I have just started cutting down on carbs from Monday, and my readings are also heading in the right direction. I would like to ask though if anyone else suffered with headaches when they started reducing? Mine started yesterday and I just cant keep it at bay, have been taking lots of painkillers which dull it for a while and then it comes back with a vengeance. I presume its a side effect to not eating carbs, but does it last long?
Thanks for listening,
Sandie

Hi Sandie,

I do find I get headaches when I low carb, but they settle down after a while (until I fall off the wagon and have to get back on it again :? ). Stick with it all!

2 thumbs up for those results, viv! Well done! Anyone suffereing with headaches should drink plenty of water. I drink at the very least 2 litres a day, and this keeps the headaches at bay...

Peace, Love and Sainsburys Sugar Free Fruit Gums!

MaggieAnn,

Could you let me know what your lunch meal is. That tends to be the most difficult for me to organise. I am unsure about fruit and nuts etc. If you could give me an idea what you have for lunch it may 'inspire' me!!

many thanks,

Pete

PS. Well done Jessie!

BRilliant, you obviously feel deservedly proud of yourself

Its a bit boring and very routine...sorry... but I love parma ham or any other ham and honeydew melons. So I have gone back to having that. Or Pears and grated cheese or any of the other fruit - I am still working out which ones are best for me. I love prawns and have those with apples. Like someone else on the forum I can't even look at a banana or more than a couple of grapes both of which make my levels very high - which actually was my downfall pre-diagnosis. I have also cut out all orange juice which has made a big difference and now drink no added sugar squash and lots more water. I treat myself to the sparkling water - eh sounds like I am converting well when I treat myself to water lol. I am going to look at boiled egg and cheese salads next week when I get organised with the shopping.

Melon, Parma Ham and 2 little apricots at about 1300 hrs just done blood test and 4.5 sounds good and feels good for me. :D Roll on tea.

Sounds good to me!

I'll give that a try anyway. Palma ham I like as well. Was in the supermarket this pm and saw some avacardos on sale at a reduced price - so I bought them. I hear they are good for us lot. My imagaination then ran WILD!

At the fish counter I saw some cartons of ready made prawn cocktail. I thought they would help the avacardos go down a treat!

My absolute favourite fruit is papaya- but that can be very expensive over here and I don't see it sold that often.

Yes, bananas and grapes don't seem to agree too much with me. As a kid i think I was brought up on banana sandwiches and grapes!

thanks,

Pete

Well done Viv, excellent news!

Re headaches, I agree with Patch, try to drink more water, this will help.

All the best

Hi viv,
Headaches often occur because we are dehydrated. As Patch says, water is the answer and having a glass after tea or coffee is also advisable as they both act as diueretics.
Catherine.
