Hi Everyone

Just had my first visit with the DN today after being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes last Thursday by the surgery receptionist!, BS fasting glucose test of 15.8, since being told and feeling a bit overwhelmed I started to research exactly what was happening to me and discovered this site. I have spent hours lurking since reading everyone's posts from BS levels, meters, low carb etc. etc.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who posts and shares information here, I felt totally empowered today, I got the typical high carb, don't need to test, pat on the head and be a good girl response, no offer of a meter or prescription for test strips and lancets (apparently self testing meters are all inaccurate according to the DN), no mention of Vat exemption or medical exemption certificate even though I have been put on Metformin 500mg x 2 daily, denied a low carb diet sheet when I asked for one etc., basically the only advise I received was green bananas are better than ripe ones... not sure I would want to eat green one's anyway!

I honestly thought people here were exaggerating about the level of advice and support some received from their DN and surgery.

I actually ended up after standing my ground due to this forum with a meter, a repeat prescription for the strips and lancets, the medical exemption form, an eye scan booked, a HBA1c booked in for my baseline and a guarantee this is repeated every 3 months, a print out of all my blood results and an appointment next tuesday to see the quit smoking nurse, oh and a diary to record my BS levels!.

And that is down to everyone here, looking forward now to getting control of this, have lots to learn and digest but feel I'm on the right road and amongst people who understand.

Many thanks

Good for you, Lainey and more power to you!!
Welcome to the forum as well and I hope that we continue to help you to get control of your diabetes.
