Well, I got my latest blood test results back today and I'm a bit disappointed!

HbA1c has gone up a little - 5.4 to 5.5. (April 2010 - 6.5; Sept 2010 - 5.6; Dec 2010 - 5.4)

Total cholesterol is up from 5.0 to 5.5. However, HDL is up, trigs and LDl are down, and total:HDL ratio is also down, to 4.1, so I suppose I shouldn't complain.

I guess I was expecting a miracle! Obviously too much red wine (my iron count is great! ).

Fortunately my long-suffering liver is soldiering on, 'normal' results right down the line.

A bit stricter control is called for, I think. I'm determined to get my levels into the 'normal' range.

Viv :)

Thanks, Sue!

I know I shouldn't complain, and when I read some other people's histories, I'm very thankful that I was caught so early! I suppose it's just that my results between April and December 2010 were so much improved that I expected it to continue  But I'm nothing like as stressed as I was this time last year - house move.

I really am not doing too badly - I ate a vegeburger at a favourite local caff for lunch - lentils etc, wholemeal bread & salad. 2.5 hours later, 7.1 - what am I complaining about?

(I know, you thought I was low carb! We all slip sometimes! )

tut tut Viv  You are still my inspiration though :) Hope you enjoyed it. :D 7.1 - glad you got away with it.

"Thanks for the kind words, Daisy" she replied, wiping the chocolate from her mouth . . .

It's okay, it was 3 small pieces of 90% proof

I'm putting the vegeburger down to 'education' - I've learned that I can't really eat those, but yes, they are nice! A great little teashop in Hardraw where a lot of the food is vegetarian and organic, and almost all of it is home-made.

This is a bit like when I first went to Weightwatchers, when I was told I could have 1000 calories of diet and 500 calories of treats! I ended up drinking 5 glasses of wine every night   carefully measured so I got the right number of calories!

The great diet and exercise push starts on Friday. I'm aiming to lose at least another 2 stone this year, drop the cholesterol and get those BG levels down to 'normal' - once I've done the great fish and chip experiment, of course! That will be on the evening of April 20th, when my brother and his wife visit. Cod, small chips and mushy peas. No bread and butter, though 8)

I love these emoticons!

I find mushy peas send me soaring, much more than the chips do.

I experimented with a roast dinner including roast potatoes and mushy peas, when I had roasties on their own my BG rise less than when I have mushy's on their own. And yet I can eat frozen garden peas - in reasonable quantities of course.

But actually if I have roast swede or celeriac it rise much less................
