I think this article is well worth a read for all as are the comments.

We all know people who think there is only one way for diabetics to manage their condition but we are all different and we all react differently be it stress, diet, exercise, depression, etc.....
Some people find it easy to prick their fingers, others don't.Some find it easy to change their dietary habits, some don't.

A few things I believe to be true about your and my experience with diabetes"

A good read and echo what's said

Totally agree with this article and comments, especially the guy who says he's sick of people telling him to lose weight and he will cure his T2 - this isn't true for everyone and I think it gives false hope to newbies. I have lost over 9 st to date but cannot completely get off the gliclizide and met, I have tried but my numbers crept up. I have reduced them though

I am happy with my control and accept that I have to take drugs to achieve this - there is no shame in needing meds although some will tell you it can be done without them, just low carb, well I do at between 50 - 70 carbs a day at the moment but still need those drugs!

We all deserve compassion because we have an incurable condition which can sometimes cause complications..

i would argie that those who passionately endorse a particular form of control are, in fact, showing compassion because they want others to benefit as they have,.

In my experience it is often HCP's who should be instructed about showing compassion. Not all ,of course, and not to everyone..

There is still a tendency , if a particular drug or regime doesn't work to blame the patient . there is also a widespread lack of understanding about the emotional side of diabetes -particularly about the trauma of diagnosis.

I hink it is generally accepted that lowcarbing alone in some cases does not obviate the need for medicaion completely.
IMuch depends upon how much damge has been done. It normally does mean that meds can be reduced at least. Some fortunae people can manage on low carbing alone.
It sometimes works over time too. an initial weight loss will improve insulin resisteance but sometimes it seems people reach a plateau. With drugs like Gliciazide which can increase hunger it is necessary to be careful that you don't start eating to the medication...its always much easier to find a balance if you 're not put on meds immediately.
What I mean is ,that some may eat more to avoid hypos or hunger when really it is the meds which need adjusting. Its not easy
