Type 2
Have been Type 2 since 2013 but levels jumped to 67. Have tried two different types of Meds. both giving me nasty side effects so now testing blood sugar two hours after meals and am trying a low carb diet( 30 gms carbs per meal or less) so far have lost 7lbs and hope my next blood test in January shows some improvement. The monitor is the best thing ever because it instantly shows you what you should not have eaten.

Hello Jeena and welcome.
You sound like you are doing the right thing cutting carbs.
All the best.

Thanks it has been a battle as I have other health problems and food has been my only pleasure ,luckily I am not a sweet or chocolate eater, bread seems to have been the main problem.Living on your own it's easier to make a sandwich instead of cooking, not any more though also why can't the government do something about the high carb value in 90% of all foods because that appears to be the biggest problem in our diet and until you are diagnosed and start looking at the food labels I am sure most people are unaware of that.

hi & welcome @Jeena. you are most certainly on the right track by reducing carbs and testing your blood sugars.
all the best.

eating what your meter will let you eat, is a very good idea. keep us informed how you go

Hi, and welcome! It's worth testing too immediately before you eat, as it gives you a starting point to see how much your glucose level has risen when you do your after meal test. If you are eating a low carb diet now, you hopefully should see a big improvement at your next checkup - as I certainly did.

Hi and welcome. I suspect one of the meds you are on is Metformin. If so, any bowel problems normally clear within a week or two, but if not do ask for the Slow Release (SR) version

Hi Daibell,
No it wasn't Metformin. Because I only have one kidney and unstable kidney function I won't be able to take it. I was started on Trajenta and after 5 days felt green and couldn't face food so I stopped taking it. It took me a month to get over the symptoms. Then my GP prescribed Glicazide which gave me huge mouth ulcers and I asked him if I could have a break from medication and try just using my glucose meter until my next blood test in early Jan. I started on a low carb diet
and so far have found this is a good way for me to keep on top of my
levels. Christmas is going to be a challenge but I am really serious about trying to go without medication as I already take a huge amount to control my cardiac problems. Happy days!!!

Hello to everyone.

Have just had my latest blood test results and after testing my blood glucose levels a couple of times a day and sticking to a low carb diet( even over Christmas) I have lost 8 lbs in weight and levels now down to 59 from 67 . Yippee!!!
