A1C after 3 months of Type 2 diagnosis

Dear all,

I hope you all are doing well.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in early Dec 2020.

A1C: 11.7%
Fasting glucose: 18.9

I have been on 250mg of Metformin once a day and HFLC diet.

3 month follow-up test:
A1C: 5.5%
Fasting Glucose: 6.2

I am really thankful to this forum. Do you recommend I stop Metformin?

Cheers

Congratulations! Excellent results. On the metformin, that’s a decision for you/your doctor. I know there are some on here who stopped taking it - @Andydragon is one - when their numbers came down, and others - @Rachox is one - who kept taking it.

Yes I stopped taking it from advice from the nurse. My levels reached 38 and morning fasting levels and levels when I tested whilst slightly higher didn’t seem excessively so and it was a mutual discussion. I’m being retested in a few months so shall see, if my levels have crept up again then I’m not against going back on it

but for me, I just felt like drug free was my goal after decade+ on drugs. I’m not against taking it, especially as I didn’t have the side effects some do

Fantastic results! Keep up the good work!
As others have said changing drug doses or stopping medication is a conversation to be had with your GP.
Just a small query though, do you mean 250mg Metformin daily, the usual dose range is 500mg - 2000mg per day, (I take 1500mg, that’s 1000mg with breakfast and 500mg with my evening meal).

Thank you. I have an appointment with my doctor next week. I will discuss the possibility of coming off of Metformin : )

It’s good to have these conversations. It’s always better I think to have the doctors supporting rather than you feel you have to do it without

Metformin does have other benefits, and as I said I'm not against taking it. Just for was an aim of drug free after so long as I said beforr

Well done-isn't it amazing what we can achieve with the right information advice and support. I love these stories. These stories are what will help new people as they struggle with the diagnosis.

Congratulations!
