Hi everyone,
I have had type two for about 4 months. I bought a Betachek C50 and was wondering if anyone knows just how accurate they are and if they are a good make, I know there are allowed a bit of leeway on the accuracy. I hope so as I bought it from Diabetes UK.

Hi @GandMbb & welcome to the forum :)

I’ve no experience of this meter but looking at reviews on various sites they all seem positive, as you say there is an allowance for accuracy on all meters so I’d say it’s as good as any other meter

The usual standard for a fingerprick meter is 15% variation, 95% of the time. That means that a true blood glucose value of 6.0mmol/l could return a reading anywhere between 5.1 and 6.9 mmol/l and it meets the standard. It's allowed to be even further out one time in twenty.

The inaccuracy evens out if you use the meter to build up a large number of readings over many days - the BG pattern should be more consistent, and individual odd readings won't be so puzzling.

If you'e in the UK or Europe, your meter should comply with ISO standards. That will be in the accompanying documents somewhere.

Hi @GandMbb
How are you getting on with your Betachek? I love the idea of everything integrated, no separate lancet or test strips, and I can't understand why there isn't more about it on the forum. I am on the cusp of getting one, just want positive feedback and experience. Thanks.

Hi.
Yes it seems fine, very easy to use, no messing about with strips and very compact. I order cassettes and prickers from Diabetes UK and delivery is very quick.
