ACE Inhibitors and Diabetes

Hi everyone, I recently came off all diabetes meds. Then I had to go to hospital for a short time to adjust my mental health meds. At the same time I was put on Metformin again to help even out my blood sugar levels with the new antipsychotic. I am currently taking Cilazipril and Metoprolol alos for heart problems.

I have been feeling very sick in my stomach and chest. It is a feeling like I'm going to pass out or like when you get up too fast only when I'm sitting down. I wonder if anyone knows if ACE inhibitors can have this effect or not. Thank you.

I would contact your Dr's in the morning and make an appointment to see them, the patient info will list possible side-effects but you don't want to be putting up with that if it's making your feel faint and sick.

Thank you for the replies. I have spoken to a pharmacist and he suggested that it may be the heart medication. I have since seen the doctor who is adamant that there will be no medication change. The doctor has ordered that I not go to a special event in October as I do not need the extra stress. So she has just rounded it down to anxiety. I'm am now lost as to what to do.

anxiety can duplicate the symptoms of a heart problem quite nicely, as the staff at any A&E can tell you.
you asked the dr and the chemist for any known drug interactions with what you are taking, you can double check them on Dr google if you need to.

Hi. Your symptoms match possible side-effects from cilazipril, as you can see, but can also be caused by other things.
If like me your blood pressure was normal before you were put on ACE inhibitors to protect your heart, then at least in the short term you may well get dizzy from low blood pressure.
What you could always do is talk to your doctor about whether the size and frequency of your dosage might be adjusted, just to see what happens (this worked for me, and the GP was happy to direct) or whether you might be switched to another ACE inihibitor which might not cause the stomach problems. Do work with your GP on this and see if you can agree a way forward. Good luck

Thank you. The reason I was put on Cilazapril was that I have a high relaxing pressure of about 100. The Metoprolol was given to help with the physical effects of panic attacks. In talking with my Doctor she is adamant that she sees no reason to change or adjust the regiment. She is adamant that I will not pass out and is adamant the symptoms will not get worse. As far as she is concerned it is anxiety and I need to relax. This was somewhat unhelpful, but I will see what happens. Right now I have the hard rock-like pain in my chest just beneath the sternum. It can get quite severe, but I will just keep telling myself it's a panic attack.

you may be caught in a loop. anxiety gives you symptoms, which makes more anxiety, which makes more symptoms and on it goes

I'd say that's true. A self-sustaining situation. I need to research how to break the cycle. These attacks only started in June too.

Ah well, that could be a number of things. I would say the collection together has had an impact but perhaps the most pressing is a Dysphonia. In March I started receiving treatment for a Dysphonia I've had for 3 years. This involved speech therapy. Speech therapy has has minimal results and only increased my awareness of the issue. I get anxious from being in public settings or in places where I may have to talk to others. It really is affecting my life. Although the panic attacks seem to be occurring anywhere public or at home.

so all it did was make you embarrassed, that was a waste of time.
the minds a funny thing and it may well be that, are you doing one on one psychotherapy about it?

I see the Speech therapist and the throat specialist next week. They have been gradually ruling out what it isn't and psychotherapy maybe the next stage or going to an advanced clinic up north.

the anxiety tension wouldn't be helping you vocal cords either, so that may play a part too. the throat specialist may have some ideas.
Elvis use to get prescribed liquid cocaine for a gargle for his voice, but I think he forgot to spit :)
