These bars look tempting and claim to be keto and low carb friendly, they are a bit pricey but as an occasional indulgence I’m hoping they would fit my diet. Has anyone tried them and if so what do you think?

Not sure, @Ambermac , I don’t use this sort of product. I think @Rachox knows a bit about keto bars. I tagged her, to see if she can advise.

Thanks Pipp, not usually my go to product either, I’m just looking for a bit of variety as I’m quite new to this and feeling out of my comfort zone.

These are from Herbalife. I used to be one of their distributors, and they used to be MLM based, This made their products extremely expensive (price I have seen advertised is £25 for a box of 18 bars) and if this is shipped, then add postage on top.

They appear to be 24g carb of which 4g is sugar per bar. Cannot find any ingredient listings though so not sure if it has any hidden sugars.
Wrong again. Found this for the keto bar
"Desiccated Coconut (22%), Sweetener (Maltitol), Fiber Blend (Oligofructose, Polydextrose), Cocoa Butter, Whole Milk Powder, Cocoa Mass, Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder, Emulsifiers (Soya Lecithin, Rapeseed Lecithin, Mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids), Almonds, Cacao Nibs, Cocoa Powder, Humectant: Glycerol, Sorbitol; Vegetable Fat (Shea), Water, Gelling Agent (Pectin), Salt, Flavourings, Antioxidant: Rosemarie Extract. May contain traces of gluten, other nuts, peanuts. Lots of lovely Malitol and Sorbitol. and polydextrose instead of simple dextrose (i,e, glucose) so stuffed with polysaccharides.

Yes they are still Direct Sales. You can apply for membership to get 'trade prices'

Thanks for the tag @Pipp. @Ambermac i love these type of bars, there are many about. They often seem to have a lot of carbs in but are sweetened with polyols which aren’t absorbed by everyone. So to get the ‘impact’ carbs of a product you’d need to subtract the polyols from the carbohydrates. These Achieve bars are a lot higher than other ones I eat, they are 33g of carbs minus 21g of polyols leaving 12g impact carbs. Here are some of the ones I buy:
https://www.grenade.com/ available in Tesco and Amazon too
https://www.phd.com/smart-range/phd-smart-bar-variety-box-12-x-64g these are also in Tesco and Amazon
https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/search/?isSearch=true&query=PE bars these from Holland and Barrett are the cheapest I’ve found recently.
The three brands I’ve mentioned range from around 1 - 4 g of impact carbs. I suggest checking your blood sugar before and two hours after eating one to see how your body responds to the polyols.

Tread very carefully. I’m highly skeptical of ‘keto’ or ‘protein’ bars - they’re often just as processed as their high sugar counterparts, just as addictive, of dubious nutritional value, taste synthetic and falsely marketed as ‘healthy’.

The Achieve bars contain maltitol which often puts blood sugars up as much or almost as much as normal sugar, and in many cases (including mine) is a highly effective laxative.

The attached is a screenshot of details and nutritional values from the manufacturer’s website.

I notice that the selling point in the blurb is "Sugarfree Caramel" which is an oxymoron and a half. That is a red light for me.

Hi, sorry to ask, are grenade bars ok? Only I was on the road starving recently, found these in the petrol station, I think I had the carb killer peanut butter but it pushed my bg high, when you say aren’t absorbed by everyone, I guess I’m part of the everyone? Or should that be other way round?

Yes you’ve just proved the point that some people, like me, can tolerate polyols without a spike in blood sugar, while others, like you, can’t

I remember Herbalife, a work colleague did really well on it and looked fantastic but unfortunately regained, she also did the Cambridge diet too with the same result.
This site has loads of good advice, I was diagnosed in May with T2 and have been throughly confused with conflicting information.

The thing about those very low calorie diets is that they often don’t have a follow on plan after the very low calorie phase. People need a way of earing for life regime, rather than fadt fix then return to old style of eating that caused the weight problem in the first place.
In the interest of keeping to the subject of the thread, have you decided on any particular snacking / meal replacement bar, @Ambermac .
(Though a bit of a naughty derailing from a mod, I love the dog in your profile pic.)
