These bars look tempting and claim to be keto and low carb friendly, they are a bit pricey but as an occasional indulgence I’m hoping they would fit my diet. Has anyone tried them and if so what do you think?
I notice that the selling point in the blurb is "Sugarfree Caramel" which is an oxymoron and a half. That is a red light for me.Tread very carefully. I’m highly skeptical of ‘keto’ or ‘protein’ bars - they’re often just as processed as their high sugar counterparts, just as addictive, of dubious nutritional value and falsely marketed as ‘healthy’.
The Achieve bars contain maltitol which often puts blood sugars up as much or almost as much as normal sugar, and in many cases (including mine) is a highly effective laxative.
The attached is a screenshot of details and nutritional values from the manufacturer’s website.

Hi, sorry to ask, are grenade bars ok? Only I was on the road starving recently, found these in the petrol station, I think I had the carb killer peanut butter but it pushed my bg high, when you say aren’t absorbed by everyone, I guess I’m part of the everyone? Or should that be other way round? Thanks for the tag @Pipp. @Ambermac i love these type of bars, there are many about. They often seem to have a lot of carbs in but are sweetened with polyols which aren’t absorbed by everyone. So to get the ‘impact’ carbs of a product you’d need to subtract the polyols from the carbohydrates. These Achieve bars are a lot higher than other ones I eat, they are 33g of carbs minus 21g of polyols leaving 12g impact carbs. Here are some of the ones I buy:
https://www.grenade.com/ available in Tesco and Amazon too

https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/search/?isSearch=true&query=PE bars these from Holland and Barrett are the cheapest I’ve found recently.
The three brands I’ve mentioned range from around 1 - 4 g of impact carbs. I suggest checking your blood sugar before and two hours after eating one to see how your body responds to the polyols.
Yes you’ve just proved the point that some people, like me, can tolerate polyols without a spike in blood sugar, while others, like you, can’tHi, sorry to ask, are grenade bars ok? That’s amazing huh, ThankyouYes you’ve just proved the point that some people, like me, can tolerate polyols without a spike in blood sugar, while others, like you, can’t
The thing about those very low calorie diets is that they often don’t have a follow on plan after the very low calorie phase. People need a way of earing for life regime, rather than fadt fix then return to old style of eating that caused the weight problem in the first place.I remember Herbalife, a work colleague did really well on it and looked fantastic but unfortunately regained, she also did the Cambridge diet too with the same result.
This site has loads of good advice, I was diagnosed in May with T2 and have been throughly confused with conflicting information.
