Acne side effect

I took Suharto SR for the best part of a year which with 1 or 2 tablets per day managed to level by HBAC reading to 51. The pharmacy recently prescribed metformin brand morningside and I’ve developed some acne. Could this be related? I’m 48 yrs old so not desirable! The docs think it’s a flare up of rosacea but it’s never happened previously. Thank
