Type 2 Advice from doctors

Has the doctor really, or, is that what your wife wanted to here? We all have selective hearing/memory when it suits us!

Those levels must be making your wife feel awful and she probably doesn't even realise. By the way the smoking will not be effecting her levels. If anything it may be helping at the moment because if she stops the nicotine she will have other cravings and likely turn to food.

You probably know you can't force her to change and arguing will not help; you need to lead.

What does she eat at the moment? I am hoping that a few small changes could help and that then she may see and feel the benefit.

I must admit that i am concerned that a doctor has said that those levels of glucose are ok and that smoking is no problem. High levels are not good...especially consistant high levels, as there is a risk of complications and neuropathy.

Smoking, especially heavy smoking is not good either. Smoking makes the blood thicker and sticker which increases the risk of clots and strokes ect.

Is it possible to give a little more information as to your wifes general health/diet/weight? Sorry cant help more.

I would consider talking to another doctor or diabetic nurse specialist and relay your concerns.

Incomprehensible!!

For be it for me to disagree with the medics, but disagree I will, assuming that's what the doctor said.

I've just completed a DESMOND course for T2s on Thursday and one specific section focuses on the heightened risk of complications for T2 smokers as being a 10 to 20 fold increase in the likelihood of chronic heart, vascular disease and stroke. That's 1000% to 2000% greater risk than a smoker who does not have T2.

Please let your wife read this post and encourage her to sign up for a DESMOND course, that will give her at least a kick-start in renewed understanding

Hi. Those levels are not OK. We would need to have more information such as weight, BMI, other meds etc to possibly comment further. The numbers indicate that small increase in the Novomix may be needed or even a move to Basal/Bolus if your wife has a normal weight?
