Advice needed for my Dad TYPE 1

I'm not sure what else can be done to be honest Hollie, not if he is in those kind of surroundings - it is worrying for you. How are you managing to get up to date info on his bg's etc, is the info being relayed onto you by someone? I guess it must be otherwise you wouldn't know, is there anything that person could do to help?

We will have to just sit it out until the morning now, my Dad is relaying the information to me as I am the only one that helps him through his situation and anything he needs really.

Thank's for your concern I have told Dad to try his best to keep hydrated and I have contacted all authorities in the UK that have duties to help him if his health is in a life threatening situation, they have all received directions from The Independent Diabetes Trust as to the seriousness of my Dads condition so fingers crossed everyone that we get somewhere tomorrow and he make it through another night.

I wonder if there is anything you can do to have the FCO get him extradited or ejected from Indonesia to serve the rest of his sentence in the UK? It strikes me that while he remains in the jail he is currently in he, as you say, will remain in a particularly bad way.

Have you looked at this avenue as a way of ensuring that he at least gets the treatment he needs, even if he doesn't get out of jail?

Sounds like all you dad can do for now is keep from dehydrating. That can only help his levels, let alone keep his temperature down and add a tiny bit of strength. If you can read his results and get some indication of what and when he eats, you may be able to work out when his spikes are highest, but I'm not sure you personally can do anything with that unless he has a medically qualified person to communicate with. All you can do, apart from encouraging him any chance you get, is keep pressure on the authorities here to do ..something....to ask that he has access to adequate minimum medical care. Of course, the Indonesian authorities are under no direct obligation to respond, and it will rely purely on their desire for general political goodwill. I know your need right now is short, and the dilemma is not just that he has no medical care but that he has to watch what he eats when he probably cannot afford to miss out on anything that gives him energy...but while doing your best to help him...you need energy too!. Long term - petition? I'd sign it, and certain sites and social media are increasingly powerful. Stay as calm as you can, Hollie - you can't change it by yourself...and certainly not right now. I hope you and your family are getting sleep and are eating well enough yourselves.

Hi , Yes I am doing all I can to help him, but as it's now weekend they are very reluctant to help.
The lifestyle is very different in Indonesia, and not much care is given to prisoners and the health facilities they have for prisoners will be closed until Monday. I have urged FCO to get someone to him. We feel so helpless just sat here!

Thanks x

Yes he is doing well to get through this so far, with us being miles apart it's really hard to monitor this and help him. The Prison Clinic will now be closed until Monday, so we can't get any readings now, I am keeping on at the authorities because if I don't they just ignore and hope I go away but they have left office for the weekend now so I will call the Global response team shortly and see if they can do anything about this.

Noted Paul ha you just drove me to get some cereal and a quick brew :) Thanks hard to think of yourself when a crisis like this happens!

I will keep you updated on any progress

Ha! I don't usually encourage people on this site to have a bowl of cereal! I miss my cornflakes but, like all cereals they are like a red flag to a sugar bull!. One day, maybe. o_O Make sure you're sleeping too, yeah?

Yeh I don't really like cereal myself but any food will do at the min that's quick, had a good few hours sleep so have been contacting anyone else I can think of to see if they can help in any way.

Readings were taken this morning before clinic was closed and they were both High still, he still feels very weak but has managed to eat some of his meals today. I really feel that they will ignore this until Monday but I am going to keep at it and keep contact so I can note any changes in his condition.

Fingers crossed :)
