Hi all just looking for some advice, my blood sugars have been a bit high over the past few days and I cannot figure out way there doesn't seem to be any reason apart from I may be pregnant...very early did any of you notice this change at the very beginning as I just assumed they would go down rather than up if I feel pregnant. Thank you

Yes, I had high sugars very early on. It's not uncommon. The hormone surge maybe? The lows started a little later.

Correct carefully if you need to and are confident doing so, and just keep an eye on things :)

@Jen92' This is my first pregnancy and I'm only 9weeks in but before I found out @4weeks, I had been waking up with high blood sugars that I couldn't explain. After finding out I was pregnant I definitely put those highs down to that. Also I haven't really noticed the lows everyone talks about either - a few during the night that'd I'd mostly put down to me over est.insulin needed etc. If anything my basal requirements have been increasing during the day. The only lows I've had so far seem to be if I've made a correction dose - I seem to be quite sensitive and end up hypo after correcting but that could also be that there is still rapid acting insulin in my system and I'm being over cautious trying to bring down a 2hr post prandial blood sugar. My DSN is really against me correcting a raised blood sugar and says to correct it at the next meal however I hate to leave it that long and would prefer to treat the hypo & be lower. Again this might not be what everyone does but it's how I prefer to do it!

@azure can I ask you at how many weeks did your lows start?

@marie85 This is from memory so not exact figures, but I found my early highs went away and my BS was normal for a little while, and then the lows started at very roughly 8 or 9 weeks. They started gradually - gradually having more lows - and then there was a period from maybe 10 to 16/18 weeks when they were very noticeable. Then I would test low, have Lucozade, and still be able to eat. 20g carb snavk without a bolus, and possibly need more glucose too. I would also wake low.

Be prepared, keep Lucozade everywhere, particularly by your bed, and test lots. Don't worry - it's fine if you're prepared. The best way I can describe it is like suddenly being back in the honeymoon period ot almost cured. Pregnancy lows have no logic and are different from normal lows. Be prepared for them and get plenty of glucose and snacks in! Also, be prepared to make adjustments to your insulin. I put my basal down.

Hope that helps :)

Would just like to add that for me lows happened very quickly. Much faster than I'd been used to. So if you feel low, test. Don't assume that you're misinterpreting your symptoms.

Thank you for your reply, I still have another week before I can test however seems that pregnancy could be the only explanation for these highs. That mixed with the constant nausea is making me wonder. Hope you are keeping well, it's such an exciting experience however is so different this time as I was not diabetic during my first pregnancy.

Thank you for your reply, this is my biggest worry as I have never had a hypo, I feel symptoms at 4.5 and have never been below 4 j guess I will soon know

I experienced high readings before I found out I was pregnant at only 4 weeks! Actually, the high blood sugar readings (and sore breasts) were the two symptoms that made me think to get a test and it was positive :joyful: good luck:)
