Hi,
I was diagnosed 5 weeks ago, my BS level was 54 and my ther one if the charts...
I got a call from my doctor saying her needed to see me urgently and to come straight into the surgery.
Ok what he recommended was,
I ate no fruit, fruit juice ir cereals. No bread, potatoes, pasta or rice in fact no carbs or as few as possible.
I asked him what I should eat and he said eggs were good.
My first finger pricking test when I got to the surgery was 48
He gave me 5 days to get it down 15 otherwise he would start me on insulin.
I came back and Google became my friend, I kept typing in how much sugar in bread, how much sugar in mushrooms etc and it gives you carbs and sugar in each item.
I then tried to sort out a diet... Bacon and eggs for breakfast is good
Lots of protein is good so lunch was chicken and salad
And dinner was veg and some kind of meat...
Then I found this site and it's become a lot easier...
After 5 days my blood sugar levels were at 10-12.5
After 12 days they were 7-9
And for the last three weeks they have been between 4.5 and 7. Apart from one reading of 9.8 2 hours after eating tinned tomatoes...
You need to eat but if you check your blood before and 2 hours after you eat you will be able to see what affects you.
I'm one of the lucky ones, I didn't suffer at all as my blood sugar dropped but I know a lot of people do.
I would really try the low carb again, it makes a huge difference
Good luck though what ever you do
If you cut down on the carbs you should soon see lower numbers and start to feel better - I reduced my intake of carbs down to almost nothing on the day I was diagnosed - that was for dinner, as the appointment was mid afternoon, then I ate about 10 gm of carbs in the morning and 15 in the evening for a few days, with coffee and a few nuts in the middle of the day. my numbers soon dropped and I had a day of feeling wobbly - but once that was sorted out I've been full of energy and seeing weight loss, and low blood glucose. I am never hungry and my medical people aren't even talking to me now.
Carbs make you feel hungry, and maintaining double digit blood glucose levels is going to be a really bad idea in the long term.
Low blood glucose is perhaps 5 or under - and 'hypo' is about 4 mmol/l or less - and for a type 2 it should mean that your liver will start to supply glucose to the blood - it is just part of the normal regulation of glucose which you want to encourage, not stop by eating chocolate and biscuits.
Hi normally I eat for breakfast bacon sausage and egg with toast
Dinner - either a cheese and onion sandwich or egg mayo
Tea - beef dinner to Chinese I do eat lots of vegetables
Then because I've been feeling a low I've been having digestive biscuits and chocolate bars (this is because I actually thought I was animic due to constantly getting
Lows)
I was feeling really bad fatigue but once I cut out the chocolate I basically crashed hard. Then I thought oh my god so I've gone back To how I was eating before
I do seem to wake up starving hungry then eat then 4 hours later I'm hungry so I have my sandwiche and then I'm
Ready for my tea.
@Joshmax123Thank you so much for your reply this is the reply that I needed
I was so worried In case I should not drop the carbs and it would make me really ill (because they don't seem to tell you anything) I will drop carbs but slowly and hopefully I will now be ok
