Hi I'm Stuart age 44 thanks for having me on your forum

Need advice about my symptoms

It seems to of started after drinking a can of energy drink 3 month ago I started with blurred vision then my foreskin started stinging and the skin went dry and started cracking which was very painful I was getting treated for a water infection ... my foreskin is still bad and still cannot pull the for skin back to clean myself after 3 month then one night i was falling asleep at 4.00pm in the afternoon which i have never done before and for some reason my mouth started going really dry at work and i was feeling thirsty the same night i was constantly going to the toilet to pee then i wanted a drink then pee then drink i was drinking about 1.5 liters every hour of the day for a week but felt really thirsty all the time then I started with headache and bad pains at the back of my eyes I have a constant pain in my big toe like a ingrowing toe nail but on further inspection there is nothing there just annoying pain then 3 week ago I started with pains in my sides and back ... and started with diarha ...... I was passed from pilller to post by different docs and hospitals while on holiday ..........

When I got back off holiday I visited my mum and explained my symptoms and her boyfriend who is diabetic type 1 said they sound like diabetes symptoms so we tested my blood sugar on his tester by pricking my finger all 3 different tests showed ( HI) at different times of the day.
mums boyfriend told me he not seen this before and he had only seen the machine show 24 highest he checked in the book and it said seek medical advice immediately. .... This scared me and I did not eat for 2 days then I checked my super levels and it was 17.8 ....... After 3 month of been messed about at clinics and been turned away from hospital and the docs because the blood testing department was full booked I finally got my blood tests done today .... In the last 12 week I've gradually controlled my blood sugar by diet but cannot get any lower then 12.8

my foreskin is the same but my eyes are a lot better I'm not blared any more I'm just having trouble reading close up

I've not received my results yet
Do u think I am diabetic my mum's 2 brothers and 2 sisters were all diabetic but it missed my mum

Gday mate, you've come to the right place, even though you know family with it. it's still bloody scarey. 12 is a lot better than before but as you may have been told, over 7 of a morning and over 11 anytime after eating is diabetic,
Have a read around the site and ask lots of questions.
To get your BG blood glucose down more, try cutting some more carbs. I had to stop all grain and grain product, as well as sugar and potato.
I finished up choosing the LCHF way of eating with metformin slow release meds that's helping a lot

Yes, by the sound of those blood test results you are diabetic. But the good news is this site can help you with plenty of great advice to control it, so don't panic, just ask us questions when you need help. I have been eating a low carb, high fat diet and my eyesight has improved a lot in the last 2 years. I now need weaker reading glasses. Like Jack, I also cut out sugar, bread, flour, rice and potatoes - all the high carb things. It's surprising how much tasty food is left when you have done this. As for high fats, the good news is that you can have cream, butter, lard, goose fat, cheese, nuts etc, so there is no need to go hungry as you can replace the carbs with enough fat and protein to suit your appetite.

When you get your test results ask for a copy and keep coming back to this forum and asking questions and we will help you to get your diabetes under control.

Welcome! - that was what I meant to say first of all. Sorry, my brain wasn't fully awake then.:)

Yes, you are almost certainly diabetic and no hospital should have turned you away with sugars that high. Do go to the doc, tell him your readings and ask for a formal test so you get a formal diagnosis. Drink plenty of water and keep the carbs down. Keep testing and go to A&E if you stay in the 20s. You probably need some meds which the GP will sort out. The infection problems will possibly be due to the high blood sugar which causes bacteria and yeast to thrive. Get the blood sugar right down and this should help a lot. You may need insulin for a while (or permanently if a T1) to help get the sugar down.

I would say there is no doubt you are diabetic and it is shocking that you were not admitted to A&E and immediately diagnosed. Well done you for managing on your own but you need to be in the care of a diabetic unit immediately so they can assess if you need insulin.

One thing I can say for sure, the worst is now behind you. You've been through a terrible ordeal but it will be better from now on.

I can't believe you were messed about for 3 months with those kind of blood sugar readings. It's appalling.

Yes my family was fed up that I was messed about I went to docs 3 week ago was told don't eat from 8.00pm and you will get a phone call telling you what time to come in tomorrow .... I got no phone call at all ....... The next morning I rung up at 11 am I was told to come down anytime before 1.00pm I went down straight away got there about 11.15am I paid for parking went to blood test reception and I handed my paper over and she point blank refused to look at my papers and told me they couldn't see me :-( I complained id starved for 15 hours and had paid for parking but she just turned away saying cannot see you ..........

I know how that goes. My whole family and work colleagues were worried I had cancer at the point I was diagnosed.

So in the scheme of things, diabetes is not the worst thing.

That kind of lack of coordination can be par for the course unfortunately.
