Hello I'm new to this forum, I searched for this site really to hopefully get some advice.

May I please say first I am going to the doctors tomorrow but just wanted advice.

I'm 34, two children. I have PCOS and so does my sister and we suspect my grandmother on my dad's side had it. My dad currently has diabetes and is on metformin. He is overweight and so is my sister. I am not overweight but not am I skinny as I do exercise but always feel it a battle to keep my weight down.

The last two years my PCOS Symptoms seem to have accelerated and I do seem "rounder" with regards to my weight. I've not felt "right" for a while. Brain fog, thirsty, tired all the time, can't stop eating, I bought a home blood test kit just for my own observations really. My Sugars have been around 3 in the morning and around 9.8
An hour after eating.

I am going to ask for a blood test from the docs Tomo but am confused, a friend of mine said I maybe glucose intolerant or insulin resistance?

What are your thoughts? I'm not scared if I have diabetes then so be it. Both grandparents on my mums side also had diabetes too,

Those blood glucose levels look normal. What would be useful to know would be what the level is 2 hours after eating; one hour after eating should normally be a peak level, so that's why 9.8, although a tad high, isn't really too much out of line as a peak. Fasting level of 3 is a bit low but might be normal for you. That kind of swing is pretty wide though, and could be what is causing your hunger.

It sounds to me like there could be more going on than just your blood sugars, so you should definitely ask your doctor about the symptoms and what could be causing them. Since you've already got a home test kit, keep track of your measurements and what you ate, how much and when, and that should help him/her.

I agree with the last poster. Note that glucose intolerance is another way of saying you may be pre-diabetic. Insulin resistance can develop when you become overweight and fat deposited in the muscles makes it more difficult for the body to use it's insulin. For some, just adopting a better diet can help a lot. Obviously if you have other conditions then it's not as simple as that, so be guided by the GP and come back if you have more questions

hello everyone well i went to the doctors today and she is sending me for a blood test tomorrow called a A1C? She said it looks at my average sugar levels over the last three months? what i want to know is how accurate it is? How do they work out your average sugar levels over the last three months??

It's a glycated haemoglobin test (HbA1c). It looks for how much sugar (specifically glucose) is stuck to your red blood cells. RBSs live for about 3 months and therefore as some die off, they get replaced. Hence the 3 month average and its supposed to be the gold standard. Too much glucose reduces the RBC's capacity to carry oxygen and causes widespread inflammation throughout the body.

Normal HbA1c value should be below 6% or about 42% in new money I believe.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply, I'm so sorry if I sound dumb, but I know something has not been right for a while. My blood test has been moved to Monday. So if my sugars were stable for the next few days does that mean my test could possibly come back normal then?
If it does come up high what's the next thing likely to happen? Will I have more tests?

No a few days of normal levels will not really affect the average over 90 days
