I will shortly be officially pumping and will need to do some more basal testing. Been using the freestyle libre (also testing the Glimpse app) and have a few questions regarding the best way of testing during the night to get the most accurate results before fine tuning the basal. Thought of the following different ways

1. Soley use the freestyle libre and sleep through and analyze the results following day

2. Wake every 2 hours and scan

3. Stay awake and scan every 2 hrs

4. Ask partner to remain awake and scan every 2 hours while I sleep

5. Wake every 2 hrs and finger prick

6. Stay awake and finger prick every 2 hrs

Reasons why I ask is because I'd love to get the most accurate readings before I start to tweak the basal and I'm not sure weather sleeping has an affect on how blood sugars either rise or fall during the night.

Would be grateful if any advice or your thoughts

Cheers guys

So it's a basal test you're talking about, rather than bolus testing the thread title says?

CGM is great for keeping an eye on basal rates when you start on a pump. But remember CGM readings will be 20+ minutes behind blood glucose, they might just give inaccurate readings in an off moment, the might show compression lows. Personally, a proper basal test overnight should be waking every 2 hours for a finger prick, but then I do just instantly fall back to sleep/am barely awake for the finger prick.

I think if you've come up with 6 options you might be overthinking it. Just follow the guidence on here - https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/

There's not a lot of point "fine tuning" the basal until you are on the pump and settled in with it for a week or so, remember it's different insulin delivered in a different way so dosage requirements may change on the pump.

Agree with @catapillar - best way really is finger pricking every 2 hours & prob best to fine tune it more once on the pump. Hope all goes well.
