Hi everyone I'm looking for some advice I have decided to get my life back and stop letting diabetes rule it (only be diagnosed since may) anyway...I'm going back to riding horses however I have no idea how to manage my blood sugars during this wondering if anyone has any advice ? Please

Riding horses means exercise so basically you need to reduce your insulin levels and make sure you have hypo treatment on you at all times. Hypo in charge of horses is not to be recommended :) I used to have my own stud farm and often rode my horses out as well which meant having to keep a close eye on blood sugars and learning what I needed by trial and error.

Having diabetes shouldn't stop you doing anything in life that you want to do, so enjoy your riding :)

Hi @Jen92' Definately don't let it stop you enjoying life. I ride out too from time to time, I tend to make sure I am above 7mmol/l before I do so and test every 30mins, I keep jelly babies in my pocket so if I think I am starting to fall just eat a couple as a precaution as its not always so easy to test. It's all about confidence, once you start riding again and cope well with it then you will enjoy it much more and think less about your diabetes, for me it's finding things I love doing so i think less about the D ;)

Are you able to tell when you are going hypo? I can generally feel if I am under 5 but I can miss the signs while doing exercise. Riding is not particularly strenuous unless you are doing extended periods of rising trot so you should be able to go for an hour or so between tests. Do remember to clean your finger before testing unless you wear gloves. A few sessions should let you establish the pattern then you can be more relaxed about it.
