My reading this morning was 18.5 & 0.4 keytones

I'm on 4 metfomin a day - I was on insulin but after my pregnancy they told me to stop taking it.

I'm peeing a lot - tired - thirsty, I've previously been tested for type 1 and they say it came back negative

I seem to be fine for a while then get a high spell - was up to 27 yesterday and I just took another Metformin

I've 2 small children 1&2 so struggle a little with routine etc ...

Hi @Jennybee1408
I would suggest you get back to your GP for further testing

the fact you are taking metformin suggests they think you are type 2 following gestational during pregnancy.

I agree with @himtoo You need further investigation. Not all slow-onset Type 1s have antibodies (if that's the test they did on you).

A number of ladies here were thought to have Gestational Diabetes but were later found to have Type 1. Tagging @Diakat for you.

Please don't be worried about pushing a little for further checks or a second opinion. It's hard enough looking after young children without feeling rubbish because of high blood sugars. XX

Hi @Jennybee1408 - Hope you're ok, that's alot to handle with 2 small kids. Can you call up your GP now and get an appointment, I wouldn't accept the test results regarding your t1 status as an absolute confirmation, your high readings indicate you should be taking insulin to bring your BG levels down. I had gestational diabetes which was treated with insulin, it went after birth and then about 3 years later within 1 week i'd become very ill after skiing and ended up at the GP's as soon as I came home and straight into hospital to start on insulin again. My best advice is to get seen as quickly as possible as you need to get some help with those high BG levels, please let us know how you get on.

I should point out that Metformin isn't a tablet you take more of when you get a blood sugar spike, to counteract that.

Metformin is a long term medication which you should take at a regular time with a regular dose to reduce your uptake and creation of blood glucose, and also to reduce your Insulin Resistance.

If you are on the maximum recommended dose of Metformin (2,000 milligrams) and you are getting seriously high blood sugar you should go and see your clinical team as soon as possible because your current therapy obviously isn't working.

As you note you are suffering all the symptoms of uncontrolled diabetes.

Walk, don't run.........but do it a.s.a.p.

Thanks @azure
And hi @Jennybee1408
As others have said please go back to doc and ask for more tests. You have high numbers and that needs addressing. For you and the children x

Went out of hours on Wednesday night and was admitted with a bs of 17,8 & ketone of 1.8 - I was diagnosed type 2 but with thoughts I was type 1 but I had no antibodies in 2013 and was on metfomin glemeperide and humilin I until I fell pregnant in 2014 then novorapid & humilin I & metfomin- I fell pregnant again 6 months after so was on the same again, after birth my levels were perfect. Was on nothing at all as breastfeeding for 9 months when my lo statrted weaning I started on one metfomin in the morning and 1 in the evening with dinner. Been on a water tablet kanna for diabetics as well, they have now changed me to a slow release metformin and glemerperide - had a reading of 12.8 and ketone of 1.0 just now - they are calling me today so will ask for further advice as still feeling ******

Thanks for all the advice
