Hi. Just dropping by to ask what would you do in my situation. Above normal fasting glucose alongside elevated triglycerides and blood pressure. Should I ask for a fasting glucose test or not, to see if that's what's causing high triglycerides? Thanks for any answers

hi.

Bit hard to give you an answer - we don't diagnose on this forum, and as nobody knows your medical history it's possible there are other factors. In addition - "above normal fasting glucose" could mean anything. What actual figures are you seeing? What was your last HbA1c? As far as I know, elevated blood glucose does not "cause" high (whatever "high" means) triglycerides.

Presumably you're getting the other values from tests done by your doctor. Has there been any follow-up or explanation? Have you asked?

I've just read that triglycerides and insulin resistance are linked, hence why I thought that would be giving me above normal fasting readings. I'm not sure what my last hba1c was. I have been having frequent urination for a few years on and off regularly too, along with sudden onset blurred vision. I've got an over the phone Doc's appointment in a few weeks about my cholesterol, so maybe I'll ask him then. Thanks

I noticed in your profile it says you don't have diabetes, but I'd suggest if they haven't done it already then I'd be asking the doctor to get the usual battery of blood tests done. That way you'd know if your hb1ac is elevated and perhaps would then get treatment or advice on how to deal with that.

I didn't have any symptoms of diagnosis but went I went to the doc with another problem (as issue with my hip) he arranged for blood tests etc. as I hadn't ever had those tests before (and I was 55 at the time). That found elevated hb1ac (hence my T2 diabetes diagnosis), elevated blood pressure and high cholesterol. The measures I then took (which involved some medication for my diabetes) in losing weight and cutting down on carbs helped improve all of those measures.

Thanks for replying. I will ask for the relevant tests to be done. Diet has been a weak point lately, so maybe I can change my eating habits and things may get back to normal. Thanks
