I am T2 on insulin and tablets. If my bedtime bg reading is below 10, I always eat some supper, otherwise I know from experience I will be awakened with a hypo. So, should I take some insulin to offset the food? I am also taking my long lasting night time insulin at bed time.

Hi Lyn, we need more info really before we can advise but if you can't go to bed less than 10 without waking up with a hypo then you're probably taking too much insulin. I've said this many times but it's true, diabetes doesn't cause hypo's, it raises your BG levels. Hypo's occur in the vast majority of times due to over medication. Keep a diary of insulin, BG levels, food etc for a couple of weeks. Either post some results here or speak to your doc/nurse.
Eating late suppers and having to inject for it will only make matters worse long term. You'll end up putting on weight and needing more insulin due to resistance. Good luck.

I agree with Mo that you are probably taking too much insulin one way or another. Don't eat to match the insulin but do the reverse whenever you can. Are you on mixed insulin or Basal/Bolus? If the former it can be more difficult to get the balance right. If you are overweight then do try to reduce that as it makes it easier to control blood sugar swings. Yes, do give us some more info and we might be able to provide some hints.

What kind of foods are you eating before bed?
If you have something high in protein and lower in carbs this will reduce the need to inject again (or inject as much) and will also keep you stable throughout the night.
Could you take your long acting earlier in the evening?
You might want to speak to you DN about reducing the amount that you are taking?
Do you take the same amount regardless of what you eat or do you carb count?
just some suggestions.
