Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hi I'm looking for advice.

I'm type 2 diabetic due to have an op to remove my gallbladder. My consultant has asked me to follow the milk diet for the next three weeks.

This consists of drinking daily
three pints semi skimmed milk
Two pints of clear fluid
One salty drink like oxo or Bovril
3 diet yoghurts
one multivitamin

In addition I can have one sachet of sugar free jelly
And 3 pieces of sugar free gum.

Family and friends are concerned re my medication including metformin, another tablet and insulin.

I'm feeling very confused and rather anxious about this and would really like some advice.

Thank you
Dawn

No one can help with medical advice.
Is the consultant aware of your diabetes medication, and do you test?

Yes I test, the consultant is aware of my diabetes. I have to have the operation, I guess I just wondered if anyone else with type two had followed this or a similar diet and how it had affected their blood sugar levels. I'm sorry for any misunderstanding. :-(

I can't see anything bad in there.
In the past, some low fat yoghurts had a lot of sugar in, nowadays most don't, so if you choose well, there sn't much sugar.
But then, you need to watch your insulin, and what the other meds are, in case you expect to be seeing some sugar.

I can't see anything of great concern in there either. The milk might put the blood sugar up a wee bit. I am presuming the clear fluid is water. Bovril is a bit high in carbs for me to have every day but if I take it when my blood sugar is being friendly its fine. bear in mind that sugar-free is not necessarily issue-free as carbs can still be high - but we all differ. Nothing here sounds excessive unless your levels are really high normally. It's only temporary anyway. Good luck with the op. Then you can eat a bit more (while keeping the carbs down). Paul
