Hello,
I start my breakfast usually on 5s and then 2 hours later i get a high like a 12 or so and then by 4 hours later it is a 5 or so. I am eating the same breakfast as i have been having for ages and this never happened before. Its just started happening for a few days and doesnt happen any other time. If i change my ratio though, wouldnt i go too low by 4 hours later? any advice please.
thanks
cr741 :D

Hi has your amount of excersise changed in the four hours you are concerned about ?
ie less active high bs levels more active lower bs levels this could be a factor with your concern.

I have this problem I am shooting high one hour after breakfast eg from a fasting reading of 6, might be 10 one hour after then 7 two hours after. As my one hour post prandial target is below 8 I am considering taking some of my novorapid twenty mins before I eat so that it is already in my system before the food hits. But not sure if you are on novorapid or not, so this may not work for you

Rude people. Drivers who cling to my bumper when I am observing speed limits!!
Not sure if I have same problem but: I am T2 (Sept 2009) and I thought my BG were under control I have been on a diet over the last 6 months and lost 3 stone but over the last few weeks I feel very sick, hot & thirsty 1/2 hour after breakfast, which is usually cereal, no sugar & semi- skimmed milk. This feeling lasts for about an hour then I am "back to normal"

Welcome to the Forum Lindakp.

When you feel hot and sick do you test your blood sugar levels to see what they are at that time ?

Felt hot & sick after breakfast again this morning. BG was only 4.5 an hour after eating, so not sure what is going on.

People who are touchy.......feign indignation at the slightest thing. Hypocrites, bullies and cowards.
What was the reading 2 hrs after and also what was it before you ate ?

When your levels are low (4.5 mmol/l) that could just be the symptoms warning you that you are dropping too low, you need to eat. It is called 'hypo awareness.'

What type and amount of cereal are you eating with the milk ?

I have about 28g of shreddies, mini shredded wheat or porridge oats and about 125ml of semi skimmed milk, no sugar & black coffee (no sugar) This morning I tried toast & fried egg and although it wasn't as bad I still felt hot & thirsty. I don't feel like this after any other meal, even if my BG has dropped & I feel shaky. I wonder if I don't need as much Metformin now I have lost weight but at bedtime my reading is about 7.0.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

You don't say what your readings were immediately before the breakfast. That has a bearing on what happens after your breakfast, a base line reading. You also don't tell us what the reading was two hours after your meal, the type of food you ate contains roughly 27 gm of carbs and these are slow acting carbs so they could take more than two hours to raise your blood glucose levels.

You have lost over 3 stone so this will have changed your insulin resistance. Therefore if your own natural insulin is kicking in quickly in the morning this may be why you are going hypo after breakfast as the slow acting carbs will not have brought your blood sugar levels up quickly enough. The slow acting carbs then kick in and raise your levels after two hours causing the rise in Bg levels.

You did not say what the dose is of Metformin or what time you take it.This will also have an effect on your levels.

When I wake up my BG is approx 5.5 it then drops to 4.5 and after 2 hours is about 8.00.

I take 2x500mg of metformin with evening meal at approx 5.30.
