Nigel Farage will face pint-holding competition from Al Murray's Pub Landlord
Comedian Al Murray will stand in his guise as The Pub Landlord against UKIP leader Nigel Farage at the general election.

Mr Murray, whose character is based around a love for all things British, has formed the Free United Kingdom Party.

He confirmed he would stand forward for election in Thanet South, in Kent.

He said: "It seems to me that the UK is ready for a bloke waving a pint around, offering common sense solutions."

Dan Lloyd, who represents Al Murray through production company Avalon, said "it's definitely happening" and confirmed papers will be lodged before the deadline.

In a video posted online he said: "Let it be known that like many of the parliamentary hopefuls in the forthcoming election, I have no idea where South Thanet is.

"But did that stop Margaret Thatcher from saving the Falkland Islands? No."

Mr Murray, 46, is standing in a constituency which the Conservative Party won from Labour at the previous election in 2010.

Can't stand both of them. Al Murray's landlord routine to me is not funny and played out. Hope the Greens win the seat lol:D
 
An good demonstration of the parlous state of politics and politicians in this country today. No wonder we are in such a mess.
 
Thought Al was much older than 46, they should get them both on Question Time to battle it out :)

To be honest i think it's a bit stupid. He obviously hasn't thought out what he will do if he wins against Farage - is he going to give up showbiz and really do the job full time? It just means that the votes cast will be spread out over more candidates and no one will be a clear winner. Personally I'm going to vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party. Is their leader sill a cat? :facepalm:

Ideal candidate. Can't do worse than the humans. I've got two as well brother & sister Alfie & Daisy. Couldn't be more unlike eah other. Daisy is tiny, furry tortishell, a bit of a tart who likes to show off her spotty tummy to anyone and Alfie is much bigger, mackerel tabby who's a total woos and goes and hides if anyone comes to the door or in the house. :)
