Alcohol

Why do 2 glasses of red wine send me into hypo? I really want to have 3 or 4. How can I get on top of this?

Alcohol makes us insulin sensative.
What meds are you on? Can you reduce them?
Or of course you can have a snack before. Like nuts or nut butters

Yeah, I'd sit and chomp on some breadsticks or crackers at the same time:)

Although, you should really find out why your getting low blood sugar with two glasses of wine. It's common to have a BGL drop during the night after a good drink but that's due to your liver being busy processing alcohol rather than releasing it's glycogen I think?

Maybe it's something to do with your medication? Are you able to test your blood before the wine?
 
Rather than nuts i'd definately have some crisps with them, you need carbohydrates and crisps delivers about 15g which should help with warding off the hypo. Alcohol affects everyone differently so it's a case of treading carefully and testing, you can drink but just test so you know what's going on, once you can eliminate the hypo then you can relax more, it's a bit of trial and error though initially ;)

Hi Kristin,
I'm on Novorapid & Lantus. I reduced my Novorapid by 1 unit at dinner time & have been nibbling on Doritos & peanuts. I need my Friday wine. Lol. Experimenting tonight. Thanks for your advice x

I'm quite slim & quite a light weight when it comes to alcohol (still doesn't stop me). So right now I'm drinking wine & eating Doritos & peanuts. Experimenting tonight. Thanks for your advice x

I take insulin too and enjoy a glass or two of red, I found that I need carbs after alcohol, and then to test the next day, after a liver dump I tend to run low, but as I said earlier it's different for everyone, testing is key, have a good night @luzanmurphy_ and let us know how you get on ;)
 
Enjoy your wine. I'll be thinking of you during my happy hour.

Carbs will spike me but a little fat and protein keep me from dropping without getting any spikes but testing will tell you what works for you. I t ink reducing novo rapid is good and you may need to reduce lantus by a bit.
