Hello, I will be seeing a nurse next week as I am newly diagnosed, just wanted advice/info re alcohol please, I would usually drink alcohol once per week on a Saturday - 5 or 6 Gin and slimline tonic, am I still ok to do this whilst taking Metformin?

Welcome to the forum. Best to ask your nurse/doctor re this question. Everyone acts different with alcohol and tablets. In stead of having 5/6 in one go, you could just have one per day through the week if this is ok with your nurse/doctor. Keep us informed on what advise your given. :) .

This is from the Patient Information Leaflet that should have been included with your Metformin medication ?

Take it easy.

Hi. Common sense is needed when using Metformin. Many of us have some alcohol when on Metformin but take note of the leaflet to avoid 'excessive' consumption. Apart form that spirits have very little effect on BS. Beers and Cider can increase BS due to any remaining carbs.
