Alcoholic hand cleaner

Hi

Another question - sory :oops:

I have been give access to the first aid room at work to test BG's but there is no running water or paper towells so I used the alchoholic hand cleaner in there and wondered if this was okay to use :?: My only other option is the staff toilets in full public view or the disabled loo but there is nowhere to put the meter etc.

I never bother to clean my skin, but the hand gel shouldn't be a problem if you rub it dry. There used to be little alcohol swabs in sachets which people used. the trouble is that the alcohol will harden skin if used regualrly. rowers used to use it to prevent blisters. Nurses now use wabs with sterile water.
An alternative would be baby wipes. I carry these all the time for dealing with mucky hands on grandchildren, not for Bg testing.

I would check this out with your dsn Jibba, I am sure alcoholic hand cleaners can effect bg readings.

No running water in First Aid room ? :shock:

You could always wash hands first before going to First Aid room, that way you don't have use the hand cleanser.
 
Avoid Alcholic hand cleaners when testing BG as it does effect the readings...

Soap and water is best if not mild baby wipes are handy to use..

But def not anything is alchol based

I know Sue, I was so surprised when I turned the tap on and nothing came out :shock: not even a paper towell in there!

Think I will wash my hands in the loo as suggested - I presume this will be okay as long as I have'nt touched any food ?

All good advice so far.........if it was me I would defo ask the question as to why the water is not running and there are no towels. Out of sight, out of mind perhaps ?

Dependent on what industry you are involved in it can be a Health and Safety requirement.

Not sure about Health and Safety Regs Ken, but I wonder if the alcoholic hand cleaner is a cop-out for there being no running water in the first aid room?

Probably so Nigel.......many companies seem to get away with the bare minimum. I do know that in the Chemical industry the requirements are very stringent from my time as a HazChem Officer, even when out on the road we had to carry water and disposable towels etc. Not to do so was considered a 'hanging offence' by the HSE bods we worked with ! :wink:
 
Water sorted in the first aid room :wink: and I have brought in a small bar of soap so that I don't have to use the alcoholic gel. :D

That's the point about Diabetes.....it is your Diabetes and the only person with a 'vested' interest in getting it right is YOU ! So you do whatever it takes, as time goes by you will see the results and be glad you put yourself out a bit, endured tests, maybe hunger at times.......it's always worth it.

No pain.....no gain ! :D
