I am a Type 2 diabetic (on Gliclazide and Sitagliptin) who has a bowl of All-Bran for breakfast with two tablespoons of oat bran sprinkled on top. I usually have coconut milk or almond milk with this. Is this an acceptable way to get fibre in my dietary regime? The rest of the day I usually have 2 or sometimes 3 small low-carb or carb-free meals. My blood sugar this morning was 4.7 and this is fairly typical for days when I don't overindulge.

I used to have All Bran every day, until I found it was full of sugar, like all the other cereals.

Above ground Vegetables have fiber in them and unlike grains don't rise the BG.
Have you tested your BGL after eating cereal? For most Type 2 all bran and oats raise BGL. But you need to test.

That fibre comes with a lot of carbohydrate, so you might consider some other way to bulk up your food, if you need to do so.
If you do want to continue to use AllBran I suggest that you decide just how many carbs you need to eat and weigh out the cereal carefully, rather than just tip it into a bowl. You might be eating more than you think.

If you do decide to reduce carbs you need to be careful not to let your BGs go too low as you are on Gliclazide and
Sitagliptin. If you reduce carbs you may be able to reduce the amount of these drugs that you take, but ask your GP or DN for advice first.

If you must have the All-bran, try swapping it away from breakfast time and eating it much later in the day. Carbs at breakfast are not always a wise idea. Whichever way, you need to test 2 hours after your first bite and see what it has done to your levels. 48% of your portion is carbohydrate, including 18% of sugar. https://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=254852558

As @zand said, do be careful when low carbing on your current medication. You need to test regularly throughout the day and bedtime in case of a hypo.

I think mine would be much higher if I had it.

Maybe try testing a bit later to see the effect

Personally, I don't worry about fibre. I'm pretty sure it's not a necessary component of the human diet, just like carbs.

Lidl high protein rolls are stuffed with fibre (12%) and only 9.8% carbs
Milled flaxseed (23%) is another good choice as it also has a lot of Omega 3.

I sprinkle pinches of flaxseed on just about everything , a bit like you might do with salt and pepper. I also put a heaped spoonful in a full fat yogurt, mix it up, and add a couple of strawberries.

Hi Bluetit1802,
I'm wondering if the un-milled breaks down enough during digestion to the release the omega3 or are you using milled in your yogurt?
I looked at the Lidl protein rolls and they look delicious, especially with cheese and sliced chicken hot out of the microwave! Mmmm, now my stomach's grumbling :).

I use milled. (Linwoods)
Yes the Lidl HP rolls are delicious. I toast mine.
