That is also a common symptom of Covid 19.
With Covid the loss of the sense of smell and taste can be a symptom, not altered perception, as far as I know - it was mentioned on Radio 4 tonight in 'A life scientific'.
The symptoms I had were in '16, so long before Covid and it was also things tasting different - not everything, which was odd, but I still can't drink ordinary tea.

Hi @maria111979, @Daibell, @noblehead,

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. Yes, I am taking Metformin, but haven't experienced a metallic taste. Perhaps my altered sense of smell isn't related to my diabetes after all. It's puzzling! Guess I'll just have to put up with it. :yuck: Best wishes.

Ali. X :)
I too have drastically altered senses of smell and taste. To the point I can’t eat even a cheese sandwich tastes disgusting and smells are dreadful even my fave perfume. Yes I am taking metformin have been for several years but it’s only the last 18 months or so this has happened and it’s getting worse. But my diabetes is worsening too perhaps that’s the connection.
