in a few days I'm going to Alton Towers with the family for the first time since I've been Type 1 would the rides affect me in anyway or? Is there anything I need to watch?

Thanks..
Ricky

Hey @Darwin195 keep testing regularly and keep a hypo treatment at hand, there isn't anything to be worried about, but the amount of exercise you do may drop your levels that's why regular testing will help, otherwise go and have some fun ;)

The rides themselves won't likely affect you directly (although if you're excited/nervous etc. then the adrenaline might have an impact) but generally you do a LOT of walking at theme parks ... so you're likely to be more inclined to go hypo simply by virtue of that, so just be on alert for hypo symptoms and carry some sugar with you :)

The rides themselves would definitely affect me....i'd be seen grimacing, screaming and clinging on for dear life:)

Diagnosed 13/4/16: T2, no meds, HbA1c 53, FBG 12.6, Trigs 3.6, HDL .75, LDL 4.0, BP 169/95, 13st 8lbs, waist 34" (2012 - 17st 7lbs, w 42").

2/6/16: FBG AV 4.6, Trigs 1.5, HDL 2.0, LDL 3.0, BP 120/72, 11st 11lbs, waist 30" (2012 - 17st 7lbs, w 42").

Regime: 20g LCHF, run 1 mile daily, weekly fasting.

Counter-intuitively, despite the exercise there is a chance you could go the other way and run high. As a natural response to the adrenaline, you may find your body raises your BG as a reaction to "fight or flight" so as others have said, just test, but don't don't assume your BG's will definitely go only one way or another - everyone is different!

My one and only experience of a roller coaster ride since T1 diagnosis was not pleasant. My BS went through the roof and I now stay well away from stomach churning rides :-)

When I went to alton towers I brought lucozade with me and checked my levels regularly to make sure I wasn't about to hypo on the rides!be prepared for alot of waiting in queues and if the weather is anyway hot this can bring on a hypo too.
Enjoy it!
