Hi all, getting worried as of yesterday my sugars have been low. Morning I had 2 toast one with peanut butter decided on 1 unit of insulin as sugars a little low. Evening meal of korma and rice had no insulin as at 4. Going to bed sugars at 6, 20 mins later 3.8. A few sweets and a banana went to sleep 6 am hypo again. Help needed as still low after breakfast bar and tea, what's wrong with me been type 1 since 1987.

Hi @Angela Molesworth and welcome to the forums.

Have you tried adjusting your basal dose?

(and just checking, are you hypo from a cgm reading or a gucometer reading or hypo symptoms? )

Hi Ellie, I have the libre 2 sensor. I'm a pretty **** diabetic to be honest. Would I lower the basal dose ( is this my evening dose) as I've been on the same 16 since I first started on it.

Do you have a glucometer to double check the hypo? Cgms can be inaccurate, particularly for the first 24 hours.

Though insulin needs can definitely change.

Hmm courtesy of @Jaylee

The idiot's version, you want your basal to keep you level overnight.

Though honestly, given you've never changed your rates, can you contact your diabetes clinic for advice?

I have an appointment at the beginning of June. As I've not been to a diabetes nurse for over a year with moving location. My Dr always says my hba1c is fine at 56.

Do you have someone you can phone for advice? :Logically hypos are caused by too much insulin. If you're not confident to adjust your doses you need advice.

Thank you Ellie. This only started yesterday and I'm just a tad worried as it's never happened before. I will see if I can contact the diabetic health team at my local hospital as I know there is one there because I've walked past it, thank you again for listening x

Honestly if it's only been happening for one day I wouldn;t stress too much. From personal experience, you might have accidentally injected too much basal???

But I feel your pain, I loathe hypos.

And definitely contact your clinic if you can.

Am I understanding correctly that you have 16 units of basal insulin and 1 unit of fast acting with breakfast?

Hi Angela

Personally T1 47 years with Ceoliac and from long term experience I've found the following. Proud to say on Libre 2 at 39mmol currently.

Orange full sugar Lucazade in small amounts brings the sugar up faster than anything else bar none. The added benefit it has little to no carry over (long term carb) effect. The nett result is Lucazade first before long term carbs, only long term before Lucazade only slows it down. I've offen found older people (unlike you) who (without diabetes struggling for energy) and a must for people to carry whilst walking. I'd speak to your diabetes specialist but it could simply be your long term has become more effective or your more active than previous.
Always remember how many long acting carbs you've taken in only when your sugars come back up, it will almost certainly climb higher so be cautious.

Hope this helps a little. Kind regards
