I've been doing random blood tests using my husband's meter and my blood sugars have been all over the place as low as 4 and as high as 19. I had a blood test a few months ago which said I wasn't diabetic but I'm not sure it was accurate. I'm exhausted all the time, especially after breakfast. This morning after breakfast my blood sugar was 18.4. I've lost 5 stone in the last year as a result of gastric bypass surgery so if anything I would have thought my risk of diabetes would have lowered but my reading are worse than when I was fat! I'm reasonably thirsty all the time and worryingly I want to eat all the time even though I've had a gastric bypass. I understand excessive hunger can be a symptom of diabetes. I'm also aware it could be head hunger!
Any thoughts anyone?

First thing's first: are the strips past their use by date? That can make a marked difference. And do you know what your HbA1c was? Often people get told they're fine when they're actually in the prediabetic range, as a doc doesn't do anything until you hit 48 or over. If you can, get your exact test results and go from there. Your symptoms could indicate diabetes and if the test strips are correct, and you didn't have contaminated hands (touched food or used hand cream before testing for instance), you need to get back to the doc and get investigated further. We can't diagnose on here, but yeah... As for fat or not, fat does make insulin resistance worse, but if one is predisposed to becoming diabetic, then weight gain is a symptom of becoming/being diabetic, not a cause of becoming one.

Anyway... Get those exact results, keep a food diary with your glucose measurements along with what you're eating, and go back to the doc if you think they're off the mark, with as much information as you can give them...!

Good luck!

Things can change in 3 months. You need to go back to your GP.
Good luck.
