Am I on the right lines....

So am I getting it right...

Pre dinner bloods of 7.4, 2 hrs later it is 7.7. I had a bowl of chilli (no kidney beans) with cheese. So low carb, and post dinner bloods within 2 of pre? That's good right? I know though I should be below 7, but getting there!

Only obvious carbs I had all day was a slice of bread with my breakfast, and that was wholemeal seed sensations, had that with a sausage and scrambled eggs. Had a small pot of sugar free jelly at morning break (easier to avoid the platter of sandwiches if I can occupy my hands/mouth!) lunch was a couple of sausages in sauce, with veg and salad (did cheat and have some beetroot!), then the bowl of chilli and cheese for supper.

On the downside starting to feel bloated, vision is blurry/double for anything close, and still having to go to the loo fairly soon after the meal after my metformin tablet.

Got my liver scan appointment through, says to call them and rearrange for first thing in the morning if you are diabetic, as it is a fasting scan, so will call in tomorrow morning to sort that out.

Looks like you are doing something right, well done, im sure a type 3 will be along soon with more advice

Hi,

That seems like a good menu to me. :)
Have your readings improved much?
And your 2 hr breakfast reading was great. :D

I find a lot of protein can make me feel, claggy. Heavy and not-hungry.
Do you think that could be your bloated feeling?

If it is, you might try cutting the meat portions a bit, or swapping one of your 3 meat portions for a low carb veggie option. Maybe a few more veg?

Sounds like you are doing great. :)

How long have you been on the metformin? If you've had the tummy troubles for a while, without improvement, it may be worth asking your doc to switch you to the slow release version. Many people tolerate it better.

Let us know how your scan goes?

From lunchtime today I would have been on a it a week.

The stomach problems aren't that much of a bother, it's one time only the meal after the tablet, not all the time, will wait it out until my first appointment with the doctor!

Trust me I ate so much veg at lunch that was probably the reason, two little school sausages and a mound of veg! I can't survive on veg alone, if I can't have carbs then I must have protein!!!

My just got up reading today was 7.7, my lowest for this time, so the low carb thing seems to be doing the trick

Sounds like you're doing the right things to me; one week in is early days, so give it some time and I think you will be even more pleased with your progress.

Sausages can be a bit of a minefield - some kinds (invariably the more expensive ones :)) are almost entirely meat, and low carb; however, the way sausages usually manage to be cheap is because they contain lots of rusk and/or breadcrumbs, which push up the carb content. If you're genuinely eating a school dinner (though maybe I have misinterpreted what you mean?) I suspect that the sausages may not be a premium all-meat product. That doesn't necessarily make them bad for everyone, but they can be carb-tastic :) Also, the sauce the sausages were in may have contained sugar, flour or both. I see mixed opinions about beetroot on here. As a root veg, it's higher carb than green, leafy veg but it's about 10g of carb per 100g weight, compared to a jacket spud which is roughly double that (according to Carbs and Cals), so it's not too bad though some people say that it sends their levels sky high (though not you, it would appear).

Don't get overly paranoid about all this, it sounds like you're getting things under control quite nicely.

Sounds like you're doing great so far - now you just need to keep it up :)

As Jay hay-char says above, you need to be wary of "hidden" carbs and I would strongly recommend keeping an accurate food diary of everything you eat and drink (I use MyFitnessPal which has a massive food database and does a decent job of tracking carbs, etc)

I've had a look back over my BS readings and when I was first diagnosed in November, it took a week to get a reading below 10 and a fortnight to get rid of all the 10+ readings (I started with a fasting of 17.4) - it does take time for your body to settle down but once it does you should start feeling much better without all that exces glucose sloshing around in your blood

I am somewhat limited during the day as to what I can eat as I have to choose from the food on offer at school at lunch. The sausages were probably medium quality. Although unlike the children I can pick and mix somewhat to make it as low carb as possible! Today I had chunky beef chilli, and some salad and sweet corn, nothing else was suitable (a potato soup today!). I forgot to test before lunch, got sidetracked!
