Hi everyone.
I'm finding I can no longer tolerate dairy, tomatoes and few other foods due to restricting my diet.
Anyone else?

Because I'm restricting my diet too I'm asking this.

In what way are these foods causing you problems?

Very loose tummy. I dont suffer from metformin intolerance but I have to stop it in times of loose tummy.

Have you done elimination tests on these foods? ie, removed one at a time for a sensible period to see if that helps? Dairy is a big word - all dairy? Just those with lactose in? Just butter? Testing for food allergies takes a lot of experimentation.

Since I removed grains many years ago is when I started developing intolerances. Grains clog all kinds of things up and once those are removed the mucous barrier that the body builds around it to protect itself thins and then we see reactions.
Have you take antibiotics recently? I think I developed SIBO from them hence more bad stomach.
I gave up all dairy for many years and just recently added an ounce of cheese a day back but the type of cheese matters. No aged dry like Parmesan or Romano, no milky like cottage, sour cream, cream. Right now Brie is the best. It’s semi soft but not rubbery.
Tomatoes make the back of my knee swell and awaken arthritis as do all the nightshades so I limit them. Sometimes a little pain is worth it haha.

I also KNOW the cleaner ones diet is the more intolerances they seem to get. Eggs was another for me but I eat them now without issue.

Foods have come and gone and come back and left again many times in my diet. Certain nuts are one of them. Almonds in particular.

If you notice my list of foods that have caused issue they are all OFF the Paleo diet and the whole 30 autoimmune diet. No surprise there!! The Whole Foods that come off those diets are all rich in lectins. All dairy except butter, all grains, all legumes, all processed foods, all nightshades, eggs and nuts. So where does that leave us? Protein, healthy fats like avaocado, olive oil, butter unless you’re very lactose or casein intolerant and a few other oils and olives. Above ground veggies. Hmm... does this sound familiar?

I hope you feel better.

As my has mother aged, she has developed a number of food intolerances. They appeared in this order - coffee, grains, dairy, tomatoes, lots of skin reactions to cleaning fluids, washing powder and skin lotions. Frankly the list seems endless sometimes. A very small amount of lactose will rocket her blood pressure to dangerous levels. :(

And now, as I am aging, I have noticed the same. For me, in order of appearance - dairy (whey), grains (now obviously gluten intolerant), coffee.

So my thinking is that there is probably a genetic predisposition, and the intolerances emerge (or at least become un-ignorable) with age.

I can't say I am looking forward to following in my mother's footsteps, because it affects her quality of life and is rather limiting in many ways.

Ah yes, coffee too. I’ve been ignoring that for years. Since starting ALA again I can’t touch caffeine. Went to decaf but can only drink half. I just love the Nespresso crema!!

My daughter has gone very Paleo due to intolerances and has removed all the illegal foods. She still has issues when she eats too much fruit and choco. She does eat some gf things like waffles but they bother her too.

I just got to the point I hated feeling like rubbish the food wasn’t worth it. There are loads of other foods I love so I just ditched the ones that didn’t work.

I think for me since I am Feeling so much better that I now can tell when I'm not feeling well due to eating something that my body doesn't like.
Before LCHF I was feeling tired, sore and depressed. I had headaces often and slept a lot.
Now when I'm feeling unwell it is unusual and I can trace the reason why. So I'm not sure if I have more food intolerances or I'm just more attuned to how I feel.

Or by going LCHF you inadvertently removed some of the foods you were I tolerant to? Grains sugars and starch being key culprit.

I have quite a few food intolerance issues, but none that I have noticed as new.
My food choices are limited because of my pallet. Regardless of how some vegetables are really good for you, I just can't stand them in my mouth.
So, I have to work around my intolerant and dislike of certain vegetables.
But I have noticed that it is mainly cooked vegetables.
I can eat spinach leaves, I can eat other raw vegetables but no way can I put cooked spinach in my mouth.
I use to eat raw carrots, but not cooked!

I am dairy or lactose intolerant but I can eat full fat yoghurt. Because the level of lactose in full fat is low as is carbs!

Or is it I'm weird?

I used to claim that I could eat anything* until very recently but I have been wondering if I've developed some kind of food intolerance just before I saw this thread.

Since finishing my last encounter with the Newcastle Diet (with real food) I have found that milk is having an unpleasant affect on my digestive system - so I experimented with lactofree and the problem was still there - now I've moved on to soya milk and all is back to normal. I've also had to reduce the amount of cheese I have at any one time for the same reason.

One interesting thing is that after finishing the ND I've found there are a few foods I no longer like - chocolate being the major one - but also any salty deli meats like chorizo - and also salted peanuts. I was very nauseous on Saturday after making and eating some chorizo crisps. All very strange.

* I can eat and enjoy mushrooms but they do push my BG up which I know is individual to me as everyone else seems to be able to eat them more or less freely.

Could be the grease in the chorizo? Your body might not be used to that anymore.

Funny you say that about mushrooms!! I had some of my mushroom gravy last week and bloods shot up! I seriously wasn’t even that much. Just enough to cover, not drench. Then a few days ago I just used garlic oil and sage and rosemary and all was well

Funny how our tastes change. Just like going low carb we lose them taste for sugar and things are too sweet.

There is the change in how your palette now tastes after something sweet.
Before LCHF sweet things tasted sweetish. But it is far too sweet for my palette now and tastes awful!

I could seriously pick one blueberry out of a blueberry pie and it would be too sweet. One dark chocolate baking chip is enough for me. Sometimes too much haha. Ah yes, my pallet has changed!

@Chook
my dairy intolerance isn't lactose, it is whey. So I can eat dairy if the whey has been removed; hard cheese, butter, even cream. But I can't take yoghurt, milk, most soft cheeses, and anything with 'whey powder' or 'whey protein' on the ingredients list.

Might be worth you checking it out to see if you are similar.

Whey = one of the milk proteins
Lactose = one of the milk sugars

Hmmm...sounds like me. I never considered the whey, just the lactose and casein.

Can you do Brie?

That maybe the case, but I'm not sure I have MORE food intolerances, but because I'm feeling better overall I notice when something doesn't agree with me. Where as before it just added to my general in wellness.

The Alpro unsweetened almond milk is also good.
