Am I the only one who got type 1 diabetic at the age of 19?

I have seen lot of type one diabetic people on internet but all of them got diagnosed at very young.
Am I the only one who got type 1 at age of 19.
Because I didn't see anyone else getting type 1 at late teenage years.
 
There are T1 members here who were diagnosed in their thirties and even older.

no but he was depressed after diagnosis and i have to disagree with your doctor saying stress and depression cause type 1 diabetes its an auto immune disease
 
jibran you will find a wealth of information and support on this site hope you feel a bit better soon it is hard coming to terms with when first diagnosed wish you the best of luck;)
 
I was diagnosed on my 21st birthday. I am now 64. I had a vicious viral - cough cum chest infection earlier that spring. I had failed my 2nd year at university, had a fairly difficult time as a teenager etc etc. Who knows why I got it.... Auto immune possibly following the viral infection. I have seen a lot of changes in management.

There are many members diagnosed T1 at different times of life..

Your higher blood sugars prior to diagnosis may have effected your mood?
... & of course, diagnosis itself (understandably) may not have helped?

But T1 is an autoimmune condition which wipes out beta cells in the pancreas.
 
It's been 13 months since I am diabetic.
Do you guys suffered through any severe problems due to diabetes.
You can share as I would take prevention for that problems.
 
There was a study last year which reported over 50% of people with type 1 diabetes are diagnosed aged 20 or over ... so you were a youngster, on average.
