Am I worrying for nothing?

Hi so here's my story in late September 2015 I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and was put on a number of oral tablet meds (first Metformin then Gliclazide and then Actos) but was slowly taken off them after certain side effects occurred and was causing me great pain or great inconvenience (I was taken off Actos due to the risk of cancer and weight gain). So then I was put on Jardiance and life was good exercise and diet and taking the medication was controlling my blood glucose very well but was causing almost daily severe charley horses. Finally my doctor said that it was time to reduce my dosage as I was improving and he didn't want to cause damage to my muscles in my legs due to the charley horses. To make a long story short due to a high pharmaceutical cost I was put on Forxiga and only on the 5mg pill. Then all hell broke loose my blood sugars sky rocketed 18mmol/L and 23mmol/L were becoming common things and for 6 months this was an almost daily occurrence. Finally my doctor said that this wasn't good and put me on Gliclazide and Glumetza (a type of slow releasing Metformin). However that didn't control my sugar levels so he added Gluconorm (also known as repaglinide) then came the acute pancreatitis and I was taken off Gluconorm and finally put on Novolin N and NovoRapid. However looking up certain things on the Internet (I know they say never look things up on the internet) trying to see if anyone else was going through what I am and I found that some type 2's are misdiagnosed and do in fact have LADA. My question is am I worrying for nothing or do I have a legit concern here?
 
The doctor isn't a GP he's an Endocrinologist and because I live in Canada it's extremely difficult to get in to being referred to one (took me 3 months to see the one I am seeing)
 
The other thing I should add is I've had most of the symptoms of diabetes for a number of years I would say a good 4 or 5 years prior to my diagnosis
 
He also has me on Glumetza, Gliclazide, Forxiga, Novolin N, and NovoRapid at the current moment and so far only the insulin is keeping my blood sugar where it's supposed to be at

Have you had auto-antibodies or c-peptide tested?

Might be good to try to get a c-peptide test at least, to see what's going on with your pancreas.

Have you tried a low-carb high-fat diet? That can also help with blood sugar control, especially if it is really Type 2.
 
Ya I'm trying to do a low carb high fat diet and I'm hoping I can convince my Endocrinologist to do the necessary tests to find out what I have but is this normal for a type 2 or do I have something else
 
I had a look around for you earlier and it looks like some are taking metformin or gliclazide and insulin.

There is type 1/LADA on my Dad's side but I don't know much about it.
 
So you are not eating low carb but 45gm per meal - presumably 3 meals a day - which could be too much for you.
It is about what I was eating before diagnosis.
You might well be something other than type 2 - but even type 1's are eating low carb to reduce their insulin requirements.
I can eat carbs from some foods, but grain, potatoes and fruit raise my blood glucose more than the number of carbs they contain suggest they should, and then keep it high for longer after being eaten.
 
@Resurgam Most Type 1s eat moderate carbs so lower than the recommended 250g per day or whatever it is but certainly not very low carb. It's perfectly common and ok for a Type 1 to eat a meal with, say, 40g carbs or whatever Or more or less, as suits.
 
Ya no I only eat 2 meals a day with no snacks so in total for the day 90g per day

Is it difficult getting Specialist Doc appointment in Canada?? I am moving there next year..kindly let me know.
