The 50 is indeed just over the current cutoff point for a diagnosis of T2, but if, and it’s a big if, you’re experiencing early symptoms of some kind of diabetes then don’t be too worried about drastically changing what you eat yet.  There’s more than one kind of diabetes and the ways Type 1 and T2 are treated are different. 
If you generally eat a lot of carbohydrate, things like bread, rice, naan, potato, cake, sweets, pasta, banana, figs, dates, chutneys and jams, then there’s no harm in reducing the amount you eat, especially if you have a higher BMI.
