@Salvia I've only seen the Hass variety too. Interesting that your Sainsbury's avocados were from Colombia. I've only seen Peruvian avocados in my local Sainsburys, I've tried them and they have varied, the Waitrose ones are usually better and more consistent. I'll watch out for the Colombian ones and give them a try if they get any in.
Let us know what the Aldi Tanzanian one is like. There is an Aldi not too far away from me.
I got my ocado delivery today which included 2 x 2 "perfectly ripe " avocados - 2 good sozed Peuvian Hass avocados, did what they said on the tin ie perfectI went to Waitrose this morning to replenish my avocado stocks. No Mexican avocados today. But they did have some loose 'ripen at home' South African avos, and the big avocados were from South Africa too. They had 6 packs of those little avos too, from Peru.
I got some ready to eat Peru avocados, and one South African 'ripen at home' avocado to see if that is any different.
We can thanks @Kristin251 for the worldwide shortage. On the local (Wide Bay) channel 7 news last night, the local avocado producers have received a $1.5 million grant from the Qld. government to improve the growing time of seedlings.
Instead of waiting 18 months to grow a plant from seed, they are now experimenting with cuttings as this reduces the time the plants need to get established and plant out.
This grant was given out because there is a world wide shortage of Avo's and a large export market to satisfy.
@Kristin251 is proselytizing the benefits of Avo to @derry60 in another thread. We can thanks @Kristin251 for the worldwide shortage.
I swear everytime she posts about the virtues of the Avo, the price goes up a few cents here.
And I'm sure the stores are changing the prices as we write.
I am sure the Avo tree's will work harder for @Kristin251And I'm sure the stores are changing the prices as we write.
Fell off my chair!! I agree with weather. Too hot too dry does t produce the best.I am sure the Avo tree's will work harder for @Kristin251.
I was looking for the 7 Wide Bay news story but cannot find, I found this one that was on the local ABC news earlier this morning re Avo's in Queensland. It all depends on the weather people.

I walk two miles to Waitrose every 4-5 days to replenish my avocado stash.

HA!!
Well I had the South African avocado tonight after letting it ripen for three days. It was good, bit more of a delicate taste than the Peru avos. It tasted more like the Mexican avos. Quite firm, maybe could have done with another day to ripen.I went to Waitrose this morning to replenish my avocado stocks. No Mexican avocados today. But they did have some loose 'ripen at home' South African avos, and the big avocados were from South Africa too. They had 6 packs of those little avos too, from Peru.
