In fact, Dr Bernstein refers to it as "low carbo" in his talks. He never uses the term LCHF that I've heard.

Dr Bernstein brought out his diet many years before the term LCHF was made popular by the Swedes.

Exactly what are you implying here? That he’s some kind of money grubber who only got into medicine to make money rather than a concerned diabetic who only wants to help other diabetics recover from the complications that he was able to reverse in himself? If you’re not trying to have a go at the man, it’s a decidedly odd thing to say

I bow out now if people want to see the thread the wrong way that is their problem not mine. I am not the first one by any means to have a thread trashed and I am sure I won't be the last

Who cares. LC or LCHF, it is only food at best, it is not worship of a deity.

@AnnieC

Thank you Annie.

Good to see that you have no axe to grind against low carbing. ;)

And thank you for the clarification. What a pity that your original post led so many of us to misinterpret your intention.

I follow a high carb moderate protein lower fat deal - mostly because I do not eat or drink anything that comes from animals. My mom went vegetarian back in 2001 and has been diabetic t2 for 40 odd years, never on medication nor on insulin and followed a high carb moderate fat/protein deal all her adult life and has not developed any diabetic complications (she's now 80 y/o her last a1c had her at 5.4 and has for the past decade of her life).

Persoanlly I think it all depends on how your body works and what other medical conditions you might already have to deal with as to how following something like he suggests all diabetic's follow would really work for you or end you up in the ICU instead.

Hi. I agree we all have different metabolisms, but can I ask whether you are normal weight? Your Lantus shots seem quite high which could imply some insulin resistance which could happen if you have too many carbs when on insulin. Apologies if I have guessed wrongly.

When I was diagnosed I was at 20% body fat, I am now at 25% so I do have a little extra weight on my frame but not a lot extra (i'm at the low end of average top end of fitness). The weight gain actually is a post menopausal result, so its still being addressed as to how best to get things back down (though really at 25% body fat i'm in a healthy range as is). I do have IR thanks also to having Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), though where thinking that might be changing as my lantus dosage is actually needing to do down (but that is still being figured out as to the right dosage - since cutting gluten from my deal do to celiac my lantus dosage at times really is to high and I hypo in the morning mmol 2.2 to 3.1 is common, something I didn't use to do until I cut out gluten, but we find that if I don't have it in my system that I need higher amounts of regular insulin at meals where as the higher dosage of lantus means lower dosage of humalog with meals = back to relearning the right balance and possibly splitting the lantus dosage to make better use of it and the hypo morning issues).

I do run marathons several times a year, and cycle a lot (20k average each time, which is couple times a month depending on weather and season, better the weather more often it takes place the worse the weather the more I just hit the pavement for general running).

Annie.

There is nothing wrong with your posting. It was balanced and I cannot understand why you have been attacked by @Brunneria and @paul-1976 in the way that you have other than that you have been perceived as not being fully in their camp - not the sort of behaviour that this Forum needs. As you, the OP, have decided that you have had enough of what has been said to you and are bowing out (and I can sympathise with that), I am now locking this thread. @Nyxks and @Daibell apologies and you might want to continue your exchange on a new thread.

Regards

Doug
