American Prospect Magazine: "The Insulin Racket"

As it turned out, it wouldn’t have made a difference if Alec had been insured or not: The price of his insulin had apparently gone up again to $1300, which was more than he had in his bank account. Perhaps he felt embarrassed, too proud to borrow money so soon after finally moving out of his parents’ place. Perhaps he didn’t want anyone to worry about him, and figured he could keep his blood sugar down until payday.

America the lucky country, NOT! :meh:

The US healthcare system is a nightmare. It isn’t just greedy pharmaceutical companies. Most doctors are fee for service and have no incentive to spend any time on preventative care. Medical billing is a complete mess.

This is heart breaking. What sort of a world are we living in. There are so many why's.

Someone recently said words to the effect about staying out of politics - this is real life economic politics.

Someone died for greed essentially.

For such an incredibly rich country and with a booming economy, it's a massive indictment on their entire health system.

Bloody disgusting, profiteering. We should all demand transparency in ALL costs that we incur, even on behalf of the NHS (or equivalents) as WE (the many!) can force change if we act as a group. Let's hope that the American Congressional hearings are successful, but also be wary as these drug companies will need to make up lost profits else where!
