I have been prescribed the drugs in the title Amoclav Amoxocillen 500mg and Deltacortril 5mg for a chest infection. The dosage is 1x500mg and 2 x 5mg three times per day. I started yesterday and my fasting blood glucose in the morning, prior to starting the medication was a bit high at 6.4 no doubt because i was ill..

But my fasting BG this morning was 8.6??

My last A1C about 5 months ago was 38, up from 37 in the previous 3 months.

So i am a bit worried about this and i know you just cant ditch these drugs if you start to feel better. The course lasts for about 2 weeks.
I would like to know what you guys think?
Thank you

Hi Morpheus, yes illness can put your blood sugars up, however the Delacortril is a steroid (just Googled it) and they are well know to raise blood sugar levels. As you say, best to complete the course and expect to see your levels return to normal when you’ve stopped the steroids.

Hi Rachox, yes i suppose so. I Googled the antibiotic too and that affects it also. It seems using these drugs over a long period can bring on diabetes. When i was diagnosed prediabetic two years ago, i had been having serious chest issues and borderline pneumonia. I was on the same drugs for about two months i think it was and then they brought me into hospital for several days where i was administered a stronger concoction of the same set of drugs intravenously every six hours for about four days. Then when i was sent home i was put on original medley for another two weeks.

So i reckon this helped get me into the diabetic area. Thank God i changed my lifestyle and found Keto and have been out of the prediabetic range ever since.

I guess i wont be experimenting with foods while this goes on :)

Thanks Ma'am
Morpheus
