Just popped over to have a nosey on another particular forum that i was on before i found my home here. What do i see? Someone dissing the people on here! So....just wanted a rant. Seriously...if it hadnt been for the people on this forum i dread to think what condition i might be right now. So i'm kinda annoyed.

It happens both ways Dee. Personally, I sort of look upon it as not everyone liking the same pub, or even going into a pub at all.

We sometimes find people we might or could have a lot in common with are quite different to us.

That's life.

Yeah, now that i have stopped 'raging' you are right....thats a good view to have. Thanks AndBreathe

Let's hope the person finds what they are looking for. Shame they felt they needed to make remarks about people here. Oh well nought as queer as folk as the saying goes

Rise above it. We are all diabetics no matter what our tribal colours are.

Some just don't listen and wish to have their own version of what they perceive to be the truth, regardless of the facts. If a question elicits similar responses, then accept the advice the experienced are permitted to offer and walk your way through it.

Denial, the "I can't do this, I can't do that" and challenging with a spurious counter argument is plainly dumb. Concerns and follow up questions are fine. Fighting for fighting's sake is not.

@NurseDee ... I agree with you and glad to have you around

Mmmm I saw that too shame really as the individual concerned was only offered advice in the normal polite way...... Ah well not a huge loss to the forum

Yes it is a shame, the advice given here was good advice. The attitude of the poster was what was wrong. Maybe they will come back when they are ready to accept advice. I wish I had found this forum when I was diagnosed, I had to find out that stuff for myself by experimenting.

Hmm..and now you are talking about this 'somebody'...of course I have to go and investigate what is being said.. Oh well, it will 'kill' few minutes of 'not eating' time ;):angelic:

Found it...and yes, it did confirm my suspicion. Sadly the person was decided not to open up for our advice and support and was determined being right.....because GP's knows what they are talking and we possibly cannot because we are not 'qualified'...
Oh well...horses for courses..I rather get the news as it is and not hide it under too much soft talk. That person doesn't obviously realize that many of us follow both forums.....though I like it here better

Oh, me too. If I hadn't been such a compliant, trusting patient I'd be a lot healthier now. Thank goodness for the nurse who was so rude she drove me away, for Dr Bernstein and finally for this forum!

Kate

Or...

Could it be they were overwhelmed by the strength of opinion and it was all a little too much too soon?

I would have hoped that a HCP would have had more basic knowledge of biology and nutrition than the average newbie.

(Not you @NurseDee you're fab)

Yes, you would think so..but it is not really a surprise..is it!? It just shows one is better off keeping away, as much as possible, from hospital and doctors and nurses.:rolleyes:
Though saying that....DN I saw two weeks ago was nice and she listened and asked all the right questions and if she didn't know or could not give me definite answer, she admitted it straight away.
I received patient's copy letter of that appointment to the GP and was very happy what she had written.
There is some decent ones out there but those gems are hard to find.

I have just been across to the other site and I can so understand why you are wanting to rant :) The post was started by one of their moderators (if I have the right thread) ... this is very unprofessional of them... and to be honest I am very pleased I found their site first .. thought its not a friendly place and move to here .. and very happy to stay here. I get the impression that they are worried that DCUK is better than they are.. how sad. Also how patronising that they think people could not tell the difference between the two sites ... :nailbiting:
EDIT..to add .. think I have found the wrong thread .. the one I read was from 2012 !!!

Come on guys. Cut a bit of slack here?

People experience differing levels of shock and denial when diagnosed. Some people are ready for the hard facts and some take a bit longer to feel their way forward.

Right now, all this thread is doing is making it much less likely the person concern would return.

There may come a point when the person feels they want "something" that isn't apparently available elsewhere, and we should be leaving the door open for those events.

At some stage in our lives we've all been hasty making judgements. I know I have. Shortly after I arrived here I tore someone off a strip for making a judgemental comment, from a T1 perspective about me (or T2 in general, I've blanked out the detail.... Ahem). Since then, I've come to respect that poster as someone worthy of my attention because they really do know what they're talking about. At the time, I was hypersensitive and subsequently openly apologised to him.

Let's try to leave a door open here.

Why would she want to come back? She will get the same advice, often from the same people like yourself, on either forum.

Some do; some don't want to come back, and some, like me, post on more than one forum, including the one she has gone to.
