ANOTHER QUESTION FOR THE ACCU CHEK COMBO PUMP

Morning Everyone

I am a bit confused :? , James needed to change just the cannula flexlink this morning. So he went ahead and did this and said he needed to (fill the gap) with insulin, does anyone know if this is correct. I know that when he does a complete change with cannula, tubing and insulin cartridge that he does that but I could not confirm with him if it was right and I can't find anywhere in the books to say that. He said that is what he has done before?

Can anyone help please

Hi

Yes James is correct.... everytime he puts in a new infusion set he will need to prime it which is the same as 'fill the gap' with some insulin. Its all in the instruction book that comes in the boxes of sets. The Flexlink needs 1u of insulin to fill the gap between the porthole where the needle clips in to to the end of the cannula. If this is not done, then a higher bg level will be on the cards more like.

Relax.... let your son get to grips with using the pump himself. He will learn the same as we all do, how to go about using it. :)

I know iHs, I just want everything to go smoothly for him :) I have found the infomation now thanks.

I know you're his mum and that's what being a mum is all about :) . Thank goodness I was a grown up adult when I got my pump :lol:

Any more problems that you cant find the answer to from reading the instruction book or the pump careline.... then of course.... post a msg and I'm sure someone who uses the Combo (its now getting to be a commonly used pump) should be able to help with any luck......

The Flexlink needs 1u of insulin to prime it
The Tenderlink needs 0.7u insulin
The Rapid D needs about 3u to prime the set tube tail and the steel needle before inserting it
 
For the Rapid D its much easier to connect the Infusion Set to the Transfer Set and prime the complete cannula from the pump before inserting the needle. If you do this there is no need to prime afterwards.
