I am a T2 since 2006 currently on medication (multiple) . My average BS levels range in between 7.0 to 7.5 , last HbA1c (September 2014) was 7.2% .
I have the habit of taking dinner ( mostly, 2 small Chapati bread with chicken/meat curry) late in between 2100 -2200 followed by some fibrous fruits (Apple, coconut ,strawberry ,carrot...) and tea . Can not go to bed earlier than midnight sometimes even later .
Usually wake up at 7-30 and check the fasting blood sugar level around 8-00 . In most days the reading ranges from 7.5 to 8.5 ,occasionally in the 9.00 range.
Can anybody tell me and give advice on how to reduce the fasting blood sugar level without making too much adjustments to diet and lifestyle .Usually, I take a gentle walk of 10 minutes after dinner .

All I can suggest is that you take the test as soon as you wake up. Leaving it half an hour can skew matters as your liver will probably have kicked in by then, dumping glucose in your system to help you start the day. Have a go, see what happens. Then get up and eat! Breakfast is so important.

Why do you eat so late? This won't be helping.

There has to be a lifestyle change I'm afraid otherwise what is fairly good control at the moment, will become more and more difficult to maintain.

Firstly, you need to watch what you eat. If you want to eat flatbread of any sort, use wholegrain flours and keep the portion small. Avoid refined carbs and replace by complex carbs. Preferably, other foods should be low to medium GI. This will all go towards putting less glucose in your blood or at least stop the spikes.

Secondly, lose weight if you can. This helps your insulin production if you lose enough weight. That will also help control your BG levels.

Thirdly, take more exercise. 10 mins gentle is not enough, work upto 20 mins at a slightly faster pace. At the end, you should just start to feel a little warm perspiration. Exercise has two benefits, it helps improve your insulin sensitivity and it alters the way you digest and store your food by chemical changes to your bloodstream. The result will also help to lower your BG levels.

It's not as if you have far to go so if you just put in a bit of extra effort now, you will be rewarded in the future.

I would say the chapati and also the eating so late has crept up on you . Diabetes sadly is progressive. And what has worked for years is no longer. Id advise to eat earlier and maybe eat more veg or a side dish of veg and one flatbread ( v small). That would maybe all the change you need other than up your walk to puff you out a bit more. Good luck
