Any ideas on food when having trouble swallowing?

I've come down with some virus of some sort. But instead my throat has progressively been getting worse and it feels like it did when I had tonsillitis last time. Don't ask me about my sugars... I've given up trying as I've not been eating much. I'm trying to eat but it takes me ages to get through anything. Drinking water is hurting me a lot today. I'm starting antibiotics tonight after having a temp of over 38 for the past 48 hours... usually between 38.5-38.9 mostly. I know that isn't considered a low grade fever but in the high grade range. So I guess I better do as I'm told by my doc.

I have diet restrictions as it is.... but I wouldn't mind hearing what you all try and eat when you have problems swallowing as it may help me with some ideas.

Edit: I should add my TMJ has flared on my left side so half my face is swollen and I have nerve pain shooting down my face, my ear and behind, and my head. It is triggered by any movement of my jaw. I think I'd like a new head about now. :(

well I just saw my doc again just now and he has let me know I have a throat infection.... so that explains my throat. I also seem to have a stomach bug going on in addition to the cold virus I had. ugh.

Thanks for your suggestions @Galja - I did have some mushroom soup yesterday. :)

It was late for me and I notice that typing without being able to see was not working so well. A blandish diet works well when you have an infection, too. I was trying to describe that almost any liquid can ge made into jello cubes that are a little more solid and taste better with stuffiness when twice as strong and more gelatin is used whether animal or agar agar

Also, I noticed that coconut oil feels nice and is sort of solid and can be had plain when ill

Feel for you having to be on antibiotic maybe

Yes, I've been placed on a very strong antibiotic 875mg amoxicillan and 125mg clavulanic acid - taking 2x per day. After 3 days worth of antibiotics, my throat is starting to feel a lot better. I'm having bad coughing fits though which isn't helping me. My sugars are slowly starting to come down. I've had 7's today for the first time this week. I've got to be happy with that.... a sign I'm improving I hope. I'm not sleeping too well though.

There are certain things I have had to resort to at times as this is a common problem with MG they include baby foods ugh, but mostly I blend, most foods can be blended to make them easier to swallow have even blended down roast dinners in the past may not seem very palatable but I find it infinitely better than being fed through a nose tube.

Ooh, TMJ is sooooh sore.. Had it twice and its so painful. Hope you are feeling better soon. I would just have smoothies or soup if this was me.. I have them an awful lot anyway due to digestive probs...or just mushy veg.. Perhaps some fish. Something soft...

You need to look after your neck with TMJ...longterm wise that is..my physio links some of my neck probs to TMJ occurring years ago.. Only the likelihood being more occurring if you've had TMJ. (After my first breast biopsy x 4, my neck went into full spasm and still 10 months on is not good). She asked whether I had ever had TMJ...

Yeh it's quite painful alright... I've had TMJ since my early 20's when I first experienced jaw problems. I saw a prosthodontist who said I'd lost 30% diameter of my jaw and had 2 slipped jaw cartilages (1 each side) as my lower jaw is set back further than it should be. So I had an orthodontist fit braces to realign my bite which helped some. It's a genetic problem really. I'm not sure if I've lost any more diameter... but I did stop singing in my late 20's because of the pain I was having. I was told I'm at risk of locked jaw as the jaw cartilages had slipped 50% both sides. It just flares up on me now and then these days. I wear a splint at night which helps.

As for my neck, well I've had about 3 whiplashes so the old injuries seems to flare up from time to time and I tend to use heat packs a lot on my neck. I've had both physio and chiro treatment on my back and neck in the past.

Yes, I was eating soups and fish mostly. I'm able to swallow now thankfully as the antibiotics have worked.
