Any known side effect of low carb diet

Hi all. I’m new to this forum. I started low carb diet just over a week ago, eating mostly protein and healthy fat as neurologist stated that sfn in the feet and burning pain in hand is at least party because of pre-diebeties. My symptoms had essentially been the same for 6 months. But since I changed my diet, I have since noticed mild improvement in burning pain in the hand but the tingling and spasm in the leg has spread so rapidly all over my body and in particular face, and struggling to handle any form of light including natural light. Has anyone experienced this, or any other side effects at all? It’s like a buzzing sensation all over my body, and I have incredibly dry and itchy skin

Best wishes

I'd see a doctor on this, I wouldn't assume symptoms like these are due to diet.

I’d agree to check with a dr to be safe. But in the meantime I’d make sure I have enough electrolytes (magnesium, potassium and sodium) as these drop on a low carb non processed diet. It could also be a form of sugar withdrawal which will pass but I’d want to rule out anything sinister.

Yes, but I wonder if it's an entrapped nerve in my back. I am following my physiotherapist's exercise tips to walk which is helpful but that refers to the a knee/thigh crush fall; the back was a problem before that and is associated with tingling tremor at times. Maybe an X-ray?

Hopefully not for a prediabetic, though that can be an issue if you are on hypo inducing drugs auch as insulin.

I went low carb fast and had mild 'keto flu' symptoms for a while at first.

Thank you. Dr believe I have fibromyalgia as well as severe anxiety so perhaps changing diet whilst dealing with all that is a bit much for my body. The doctors are not as helpful and I’m being referred to a neurologist on nhs which is going to take forever to be seen.

I had a lumbar puncture done about 4 weeks ago and I still have some pain in the area though not severe and not debilitating. I wonder if there’s some connection there but tingling on gets intense either when I haven’t rated for a while or when I eat low to zero carb

Good suggestion. You are the second person to suggest that and I’ve bought some electrolyte supplement and will monitor things closes. It may well have something to do with that (at least in part) as the tingling is usually worse and comes on very quickly when I have zero carb as against low carb

Lumbar puncture-- ouch! that seems more serious than any carb content in your diet. Good luck.
